Off-Season’s Greetings: Games of December 9

A solid day for Gregorio Petit.

VENEZUELAN LEAGUE

Twins:  Willians Astudillo (Anzoategui) was 1-for-6.  Gregorio Petit (Caracas) was 2-for-4 with two runs and an RBI.  Leonardo Reginatto (Margarita) was 0-for-4.  Melvi Acosta (Margarita) pitched three shutout innings, giving up two hits.

LARA 11, ANZOATEGUI 5 IN ANZOATEGUI (GAME 1--7 INNINGS)

Lara scored two in the third to tie it 3-3, then scored five in the fourth and three in the fifth to take control.  Henry Urrutia was 1-for-1 with a home run (his fifth), three walks, and three RBIs.  For Anzoategui, Niuman Romero was 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBIs.

LARA 10, ANZOATEGUI 0 IN ANZOATEGUI (GAME 2--7 INNINGS)

Lara scored three in the first, two in the second, and five in the fifth.  Jesus Montero was 2-for-4 with a home run and a double, driving in three.  Juniel Querecuto was 2-for-4 with a double and a walk, driving in three.  Yoanner Negrin pitched five shutout innings, giving up four hits and four walks and striking out three.

LA GUAIRA 8, CARACAS 5 IN CARACAS

Leading 3-2, La Guaira scored three in the sixth and two in the seventh to put the game out of reach.  Jonathan Albaladejo pitched five innings, giving up two runs on seven hits and striking out two.  For Caracas, Jesus Aguilar was 3-for-4 with a home run and a walk and Trayvon Robinson was 3-for-5.  Caracas out-hit La Guaira 16-11.

ZULIA 8, ARAGUA 2 IN ARAGUA

Zulia scored one in the first, two in the second, and three in the third, cruising from there.  Reynaldo Rodriguez was 4-for-5.  Jairo Perez was 3-for-5.  Alex Romero was 3-for-4.  Reiner Roibal pitched 6.2 scoreless innings, giving up two hits and three walks and striking out four.

MAGALLANES 11, MARGARITA 1 IN MARGARITA

Magallanes scored all eleven runs in the second inning.  Adonis Garcia was 4-for-5.  Jose Martinez was 3-for-5 with a double.  Mario Lisson was 2-for-4 with a walk and a home run, his seventh.  Alberth Martinez hit a two-run homer, his sixth.  Alex Sanabia pitched five shutout innings, giving up three hits and two walks and striking out two.

MEXICAN LEAGUE

Twins:  None.

JALISCO 5, LOS MOCHIS 1 IN JALISCO

Japhet Amador hit a two-run homer in the fourth to break a scoreless tie.  It was Amador's fifth homer of the season.  Agustin Murillo was 2-for-3 with a home run, his seventh, and Manny Rodriguez was 2-for-4 with a home run, his ninth.  Octavio Acosta struck out eight in six innings, giving up one run on four hits and a walk.

OBREGON 3, HERMOSILLO 2 IN HERMOSILLO

Peter O'Brien homered in the sixth to break a 2-2 tie.  Pablo Ortega pitched 6.2 innings, giving up two runs on just one hit and four walks and striking out three.  Hermosillo had only one hit.

CULIACAN 3, MEXICALI 1 IN CULIACAN

Sebastian Elizalde's RBI single in the sixth broke a 1-1 tie.  Edgar Gonzalez pitched six innings, giving up one run on seven hits and three walks and striking out two.  For Mexicali, Sergio Mitre pitched six innings, giving up two runs on five hits and striking out five.

NAVOJOA 7, MAZATLAN 4 IN NAVOJOA

Navojoa scored in the third and led all the way.  Mazaltan twice cut the margin to one but could never catch up.  Jovan Rosa was 2-for-4 with a home run, his ninth.  Max Ramirez was 1-for-3 with a walk and a home run, his third.  Jesus Castillo was 1-for-3 with a home run, his eighth.  For Mazatlan, Corey Brown hit a two-run homer, his seventh.

DOMINICAN LEAGUE

No games scheduled.

AUSTRALIAN LEAGUE

Twins:  Aaron Whitefied (Brisbane) was 1-for-6 with a double, a walk, and two runs.  Logan Wade (Brisbane) was 2-for-7 with a three-run homer, scoring twice.

BRISBANE 5, SYDNEY 4 IN BRISBANE (GAME 1--7 INNINGS)

Brisbane built a 5-0 lead after two, then held on.  Sydney had the tying run on second in the sixth and on third in the seventh.  For Brisbane, Chih-Sheng Lin was 3-for-3 with two home runs (his second and third) and three RBIs.  Pat Young struck out five in four shutout innings, giving up three hits and a walk.  For Sydney, Lars Anderson was 3-for-4 with a two-run homer and a double.  Craig Anderson pitched a complete game, allowing five runs on seven hits and two walks and striking out two.

BRISBANE 11, SYDNEY 5 IN BRISBANE (GAME 2--6 INNINGS--CURFEW)

Sydney led 5-1 in the third, but Brisbane came back to score ten unanswered runs.  Donald Lutz was 3-for-3 with a double, a triple, and a home run (his fourth), driving in four.  Wade was 2-for-4 with a three-run homer, his second.  David Sutherland was 2-for-3 with a double and a two-run homer.  Travis Blackley struck out nine in a complete game, giving up five runs (four earned) on nine hits and a walk.  For Sydney, Trent D'Antonio was 2-for-3 with a home run, his second, and Chih-Hsien Chang hit a two-run homer, his fifth.

PERTH 11, ADELAIDE 5 IN PERTH (GAME 1--7 INNINGS)

Adelaide scored five in the top of the first.  Perth came back with seven in the bottom of the first and led the rest of the way.  Luke Hughes was 2-for-2 with two walks and a two-run homer, his fifth.  Garrett Whitley was 1-for-3 with a walk and a two-run homer, his second.

PERTH 11, ADELAIDE 4 IN PERTH (GAME 2)

Again an early big inning carried Perth, as they scored six in the third to take a 6-0 lead.  Garrett Whitley was 3-for-4 with a walk, a double, and a triple, driving in three.  Michael Brosseau was 3-for-5 with a double and scored three times.

MELBOURNE 10, CANBERRA 4 IN CANBERRA

Melbourne scored seven in the fourth to take an 8-2 lead.  Brett Cumberland was 2-for-4 with a home run, his second.  Kona Takahashi struck out seven in six innings, giving up two runs on seven hits and a walk.  For Canberra, Connor Panas was 3-for-5 with a double.
