Minor Details: Games of August 9

A big day for Tyler Austin.  A good game for Tyler Wells.  Royce Lewis keeps hitting.  So does Michael Helman.  Ricky De La Torre and Andrew Cabezas lead the E-Twins.  Samuel Vasquez delivers a big hit for the GCL Twins.

ROCHESTER 14, TOLEDO 3 IN ROCHESTER

The Red Wings scored four in the first, three in the second, and four in the third to build an 11-1 lead.  They hit four home runs in the first three innings.

Tyler Austin was 3-for-5 with a home run (his ninth) and a triple, scoring three times and driving in three.  Kennys Vargas was 2-for-3 with a home run (his fifteenth) and a double, scoring twice and driving in four.  Gregorio Petit was 2-for-5.  Taylor Motter was 1-for-3 with a home run (his fifth) and two walks, scoring twice.  Jeremy Hazelbaker was 1-for-3 with a home run (his ninth) and a walk, scoring twice and driving in two.  Jon Kemmer was 1-for-4 with a home run (his second) and a walk, scoring twice and driving in two.

Stephen Gonsalves struck out nine in six innings, giving up three runs on three hits and three walks.  Jake Reed struck out four in two shutout innings, giving up no hits and no walks.  His ERA is 2.17.  Ryne Harper pitched a scoreless inning, giving up one hit and striking out one.

JACKSON 2, CHATTANOOGA 1 IN CHATTANOOGA

The Generals scored single runs in the sixth and eighth.  The Lookouts scored their run in the ninth and had the tying run on second with two out.

Zander Wiel was 0-for-4 and is batting .313.  Jaylin Davis was 1-for-4 and is batting .308.

Tyler Wells struck out seven in six innings, giving up one run on four hits and three walks.  His ERA is 0.90.  Devin Smeltzer struck out two in a scoreless inning, giving up a walk.

FORT MYERS 4, FLORIDA 3 IN FLORIDA (10 INNINGS)

The Miracle led 2-0 after three, but trailed 3-2 going to the ninth.  Royce Lewis delivered a two-out triple in the ninth to tie it and a wild pitch brought home the lead run in the tenth.

Lewis was 3-for-4 with a triple and a walk and is batting .327.  Travis Blankenhorn was 2-for-4 with a double and a walk.  Jose Miranda was 2-for-4.  Ernie De La Trinidad was 1-for-4 and is batting .367.  Alex Kirilloff was 1-for-5 with a double and is batting .360.

Brusdar Graterol pitched 5.2 innings, giving up two runs on six hits and a walk and striking out four.  Ryan Mason struck out two in two shutout innings, giving up a hit and a walk.

CEDAR RAPIDS 9, CLINTON 4 IN CLINTON

Leading 4-3, the Kernels scored five in the fifth to put the game out of reach.  The first two batters of the inning went out, but then came a double, four singles, a walk, and another single.

Michael Helman was 3-for-5 with a double and two runs.  He is batting .571.  Jacob Pearson was 2-for-4 with a double and a walk, scoring twice.  Ben Rodriguez was 2-for-5 with a double and two RBIs.  Ryan Jeffers was 1-for-4 with a two-run homer (his fourth) and is batting .316.  Trevor Larnach was 0-for-5 and is batting .333.

Randy Dobnak pitched six innings, giving up three runs (one earned) on five hits and a walk and striking out five.  Derek Molina struck out five in three innings, giving up one run on two hits.  His ERA is 2.92.

ELIZABETHTON 3, BLUEFIELD 0 IN ELIZABETHTON

Ricky De La Torre hit a two-run homer in the third and Colton Burns homered in the fifth.

De La Torre was 2-for-3 and the home run was his fourth.  Burns was 1-for-1 with two walks and a home run (his fourth) and scored twice.  Alex Robles was 0-for-3 and is batting .309.  Jean Carlos Arias was 0-for-3 and is now 0-for-7 since joining the E-Twins.

Andrew Cabezas pitched six shutout innings, giving up two hits and two walks and striking out four.  Jacob Blank pitched two shutout innings, giving up one hit and striking out one.  Zach Neff pitched a scoreless inning, giving up one hit and striking out one.

GCL TWINS 5, GCL RAYS 2 AT RAYS

Leading 3-2, Samuel Vasquez hit a two-out two-run double in the eighth to give the Twins some insurance runs.  The Rays had the tying run up to bat in the ninth.

Austin Hale was 2-for-4 with two doubles.  Tyler Webb was 0-for-4 and is batting .338.

Kai-Wei Teng struck out nine in 5.2 innings, giving up two runs on three hits and no walks.  Frandy Torres struck out two in 1.1 scoreless innings, giving up a walk.  Erik Cha struck out four in two shutout innings, giving up a hit and a walk.  His ERA is 1.96.
