Game 135: Minnesota at Texas

And so we enter the last month of the season.  It somehow seems like it should be later in the season than it is.  Maybe it's because football has started, maybe it's because the minor league seasons are nearly over, maybe it's because the Twins have been out of the race for quite a while now.  But the fact is that we still have a month of the season to play.

That's all right.  The off-season is too long as it is--I'm certainly not wishing for it to be longer.  Let's enjoy this last month of the season.  We have Jose Berrios going tonight, and we can hope that he'll actually pitch like Jose Berrios.  The Rangers counter with Yovani Gallardo.  Let's win tonight and give ourselves a chance for a sweep tomorrow.  Go Twins!

  1. Minor league update:
Elizabethton trails Kingsport 3-2 through six. If Elizabethton wins, they advance to the finals. If they lose, they play the deciding game of the series Sunday.
Fort Myers is tied with Clearwater 2-2 through seven. Charlotte leads Florida 8-1 through six. If Charlotte wins, the Miracle needs to win to stay even. If Charlotte wins and the Miracle lose, Fort Myers will be one game back with one to play. I don't know what the scenario is if the two teams are tied--whether there's a playoff or there's a tiebreaker. If there is a tiebreaker, I don't know who has it. My guess is it would be best overall record, which favors Charlotte. So, this may very well be a must-win game for the Miracle.

  2. The Twins will use an "opener" for the first time tomorrow, as Gabriel Moya will start and Zack Littell will follow.

  3. Elizabethton gets its own Dazzle Special to tie the score 3-3 in the seventh.
Fort Myers remains tied 2-2 and is batting in the bottom of the ninth.

        1. I love how he just casually dropped the knowledge of Berrios dropping his elbow and sliding tot he third base side of the mound , his mechanics are a bit out of whack.

  4. Clearwater has scored three times and is still batting in the tenth. It may take a miracle for the Miracle.

  5. Fort Myers loses 5-2 in ten innings. Again, that leaves them a game back with one to play. The tie-breaker is head-to-head competition. Looking quickly through the schedule, it looks to me like Fort Myers won the head-to-head series with Charlotte, so they still have a chance if they win tomorrow and Charlotte loses.

  6. The tenth inning is not being kind to the Twins so far. Kingsport has scored twice in the tenth and is still batting, taking a 5-3 lead over Elizabethton.

  7. So close, but not enough. Elizabethton scored three in the bottom of the tenth and had men on second and third, but a fly out ended the game. Kingsport wins, 7-6. They'll play a deciding game tomorrow.
