    1. Miami is a tropical city so I liked its bright colors on the uniform. Given time I'm sure the new uniforms will be fine too.

      1. This. I think this red is a step down from the previous orange. Otherwise, I like the script and the logo is fine (baseball logo > M logo).

      2. Given the load of bad publicity Jetes & Co. have already earned themselves, this was inevitable.

Miami being a tropical city, you think they’d finally learn & not go with black hats. Yes, the games are played under a roof. How many fans are going to put on a black hat in the Miami summer? They don’t have to go back to teal, but this team should be embracing a tropical palate. It’s frustrating to see teams do thing that are so clearly avoiding their best opportunity to be different & memorable (the Padres & brown are another example).

    2. Lame to awful. I was a big fan of so much of the old uniform, particularly the orange alternate (which was rarely worn).
This reeks of "Black for Black's sake" and so it's a dated look at its release (but not retro).
It reminds me of the black-and-gray look Toronto went with before they went nouveau-retro. Just as Blue Jays are not black birds, neither are Marlins black fish.
The logo design by itself might be fine in a different palette; the blackness definitely ruins it.
The chosen varieties of blue and red are good choices (given that they're red and blue). at least that saves them from looking like every other team with red and blue (and black) color schemes. I think the red is only close to Philly and the blue may be unique in the majors.
It feels like someone in corporate decided "More Black" and this is all the designer (who knows better) could do to keep it not even more horrible. They probably screwed up by having a decent plan but then showing this "fashion logo" as something they could do with it, and someone corporate grabbed on to that and said "let's make that the actual logo".

  1. Had our first snow of the season overnight. Note to future self: yes, bringing out the trash cart early is a good idea rather than plowing through six inches of snow. Unfortunately, the overnight rain reduced the slightly wet, mostly powdery snow into very wet, heavy snow. Fortunately, the snow blower started on the first weak* pull. Unfortunately, I didn't think of trying that first to get it from the shed uphill to the driveway.

    * It has electric start and that's what I intended to use. But, why not try a quick pull? It'll at least get some movement after shutting off the fuel line for the summer.

    1. Took the oldest to the bus stop. He made a snowman (2/3rds at least) while I opted for a tower. I got to four feet before the bus came.

  2. With the new manager and mostly new coaches, there's an extent to which it feels like 2019 will really be the first year of the Falvey/Levine Era. That's not to absolve them of all responsibility for last season, nor is it intended as a criticism of Paul Molitor. But even though they always treated Molitor respectfully, everyone knew he was not the manager they really wanted. Now, they're putting their own guys in place. From here on out, Falvey and Levine will bear full responsibility for the decisions that are made. Whether that turns out to be good or bad is something only time will tell.

    1. Thanks for mentioning. I probably wouldn't have registered this one, but nice to read about remarkable individuals not in the public eye.

    1. Tony Diaz apparently wasn't the fist baseman/ third baseman drafted by the Twins and played just one year in the organization. This Tony Diaz was drafted by the Angels in the 46th round as a shortstop and suffered a career-ending shoulder injury in his first pro season. He was a minor league coach or supervisor for the Rockies for 17 years before becoming their first base coach last season.

      1. I like this hire.

    2. Cool. How long has it been since he's been in the bigs?
      ...
      11 years since he played.
32 PA in nine games with a .357 AVG and .438 OBP.
I remember he stopped playing because he had an injury.
He has a 7-game hitting streak going.
