  1. More fun with numbers: I was farting around on fangraphs this morning and Eddie only has a .235 BABIP. If he's on this tear while also being a bit unlucky, then yikes.

  2. I've been watching some hockey, including that double overtime game in Vegas last night. Fluery gonna Fluery. Probably pick up NBA playoffs in second round.

  3. Went to Shazam on Saturday.

It is The Orville of superhero movies. A comedy that doesn't quite work; an action movie that doesn't quite work.

Lots of enjoyable moments and the story was perfectly serviceable. I liked most of the characters. Zach Levi was just about perfect in the role. There was too much gore for the little kids, and the gore was done in ways that really didn't advance the plot, unfortunately. But I did enjoy Lionel Luthor getting what was coming to him for being a dick father. And George Clinton as the wizard was cool.

    1. We went yesterday with the kids. Agreed on most points. Enjoyed parts a lot, but overall it was....fine.

The violence/gore in that one scene was pretty shocking for that type of movie, though. I'd expect something like that in a dark and brooding DC movie, and wouldn't blink an eye at it in that setting. But it certainly felt out of place here. We brought our kids and they were pretty scared by that.

      1. Yea, if I were the parent/grandparent of a ten-or-under, I would not take him/her.

I am kind of disturbed that the marketing was aimed at a younger audience, but they did not edit down the boardroom scene.

    2. I agree. I took a 12 and 13 year old. They were the perfect age. Young enough to like the silly humor and old enough for the violence. It seems like it was a pretty narrow age target.

  4. Having lived in St. Louis for some time, I did grow to love the Blues (but the Cardinals, not so much). I listened to Game 6 on the way to visit family, and it was fun to listen to. Even my non-sport loving wife was getting into the game. I'm happy the Blues got to the second round, so I'll probably be following along for at least a little while.

    Basketball though... nada.

  5. Once the local high school team lost in section finals, my SCSU team lost in first round of national tournament and the Wild failing to make the playoffs, I have turned away from all hockey for the season. Twins have gotten most of my attention. However, the Masters two weekends ago has brought some of my attention back to golf.

Not really a big Tiger Woods fan (wife despises him for obvious reasons), but it sure got everyone's attention when he won and I find myself checking in on the tournaments quite a bit each weekend. I had lost interest as a lot of the top golfers, over the past few years, just don't excite me. Dustin Johnson, Brooks Koepka, Spieth, Thomas, etc all seem like robots. Give me more Bubba Johnson, Patrick Reed, etc. Guys who have some personality. I do hope to get out on Wednesday or Thursday to swing the clubs for the first time this year.

    1. Co-sign. Golf desperately needs a personality injection.

I've never been a huge Tiger fan, but was rooting pretty hard for him down the stretch at Augusta. Turns out golf really is better when he's in the pack.

      1. Yes, I was also rooting for Tiger for the much needed lift for golf in general. That, and I am a bit of a comeback fan. He deserved a lot of the negative publicity he got, but seems to have come out a better person for it. Plus, with overcoming his back issues (4 surgeries), it is impressive that he is back in championship form. I did find it crazy on day 4 at Augusta that 4 of the final 6 golfers put the ball in the water at #12. Gotta think the Tiger charge, and gallery craziness got into some heads. Tiger was the Tiger of old. His presence has got to be almost overwhelming for these younger guys.

    2. I don't have much to add, only this: We took Pete for a egg hunt on the ice at the local arena that was apparently taking place just as Tiger was wrapping up the victory. I know this because the place was packed but there was still about 10 dads standing around a TV showing the proceedings.

  6. Title feels like clickbait-y hubris, but an interesting read. Fun context references to former Twins too.

To understand how much Yelich's case improved requires a quick rundown of before-and-after snapshots. At the All-Star break last year, Yelich was hitting .292/.364/.459, and for his career he was a .288/.365/.435 hitter. By OPS+, he was around the 350th best hitter of all time (minimum 3,000 plate appearances), tied with Mike Greenwell, Shane Mack and Chili Davis.

Since then, he has hit .364/.451/.792. In just 400 plate appearances, his career OPS has gone up by 51 points, and those 51 points -- those 400 plate appearances! -- have moved him up more than 200 spots on the career OPS+ leaderboard. He's now ahead of Carl Yastrzemski, Tony Gwynn, Winfield and Eddie Murray.

  7. Yesterday, after a long stretch of working too much, my wife informed me that it was my turn to drive the boy back to college (U of M). Ughh! Never topped 70 MPH from Alex to St. Cloud. Then, ran into bumper to bumper pretty much from Monticello to Maple Grove. A 4 hour round trip turned into over 5, and I still had my dang work clothes/shoes on. I was grateful that I still have my free Sirius radio subscription intact. Nice to bounce between Sports talk, Comedy channels and some good music channels.

    1. I only knew numbers 5 and 6 this week. My worst showing in a while. I feel like I should know both 3 and 4, but have exhausted all my possible guesses without hitting on any of them.

  8. I have been watching* way more NHL than NBA. The crowds seem way into it and the game is really fast paced.

*By watching I mean have the game on in the background until I hear the announcers voice pick up.
