Minor Details: Games of June 16

Some familiar names come through for the Red Wings.  The Kernels clinch a playoff spot.

ROCHESTER 11, CHARLOTTE 5 IN ROCHESTER (COMPLETION OF SUSPENDED GAME)

The Red Wings overcame a 5-1 deficit with a six-run third and a four-run seventh.  Jordany Valdespin was 3-for-4 with two runs and is batting .317.  Willians Astudillo was 3-for-5 with two runs and is batting .600.  Tomas Telis was 2-for-4 with a home run (his fifth) and three RBIs.  LaMonte Wade was 2-for-4 with a two-run homer (his fourth) and two runs.  Jake Cave was 2-for-4 with a walk and is batting .321.  Ryan Eades struck out three in two perfect innings.  Fernando Romero pitched three shutout innings, giving up two hits and two walks and striking out one.  Preston Guilmet pitched a perfect inning and struck out one.

ROCHESTER 3, CHARLOTTE 2 IN ROCHESTER (SCHEDULED GAME--7 INNINGS)

The Red Wings scored all of their runs in the last inning, with Luis Arraez delivering an RBI single for the game-winner.  Drew Maggi was 2-for-3 with a double.  Arraez was 2-for-4. and is batting .348.  Jake Cave was 1-for-3 with a home run, his fifth and is batting .321.  Devin Smeltzer struck out ten in 5.2 innings, giving up two runs on six hits and no walks.  His ERA is 2.55.  Jake Reed pitched 1.1 scoreless innings, giving up a walk and striking out one.  The Red Wings are 32-34, tied for third, 6.5 games back.

TENNESSEE 3, PENSACOLA 2 IN PENSACOLA

The Blue Wahoos scored two in the seventh to get within one, but that was all they could do.  Tanner English was 2-for-4.  Randy Cesar was 2-for-4.  Griffin Jax pitched 3.2 innings, giving up one run on five hits and no walks and striking out one.   His ERA is 1.92.  Andro Cutura pitched 4.1 innings, giving up two runs (one earned) on four hits and a walk and striking out two.  Anthony Vizcaya pitched a perfect inning to keep his ERA at zero.  The Blue Wahoos are 38-32, in second, three games back, and have been eliminated in the first half.

CEDAR RAPIDS 4, CLINTON 1 IN CEDAR RAPIDS (COMPLETION OF SUSPENDED GAME)

Jared Akins hit a two-run homer in the first and the Kernels led the rest of the way.  Andrew Bechtold was 2-for-3 with a double.  Gabe Snyder was 2-for-3.  Akins was 2-for-4 with a two-run homer (his eighth) and a triple, scoring twice.  Kai-Wei Teng struck out six in 4.1 innings, giving up one run on three hits and three walks.  Jose Martinez pitched 1.2 scoreless innings, giving up a hit and a walk.  Moises Gomez retired all six men he faced, striking out five of them.

CEDAR RAPIDS 8, CLINTON 1 IN CEDAR RAPIDS (SCHEDULED GAME--7 INNINGS)

Ben Rodriguez hit a three-run homer in the first inning and the Kernels led the rest of the way.  Gabriel Maciel was 2-for-4 with a triple, a double, and two runs and is batting .309.  Rodriguez was 1-for-2 with a three-run homer (his fifth) and a walk.  Gabe Snyder was 1-for-3 with a walk, two runs, and three RBIs.  Austin Schulfer pitched four innings, giving up one hit and no walks and striking out three.  Zach Neff struck out three in two shutout innings, giving up one hit.  Derek Molina struck out two in a scoreless inning, giving up one hit.  The Kernels are 39-31, tied for second, but apparently hold the tie-breaker over Burlington, because they have clinched a playoff spot.
