hey, we mentioned donaldson's calfs on the podcast. topical!
Twins above the fold on Mlb.com tonite. Don't see that often.
Yeah, baby!
Adrianza brings some drizzle!
Mitch Keller of the Pirates trying for the Edwin Jackson no-hitter. No hits over five innings because of eight walks.
ROBO UMPS NOW
Come ON, Blue. Awful.
Mahle as an Opener?
Blue is being pretty inconsistent
STILL with the Moustakas cr@p
and I could do without the postseason montage business, too
Good Lord, Smoltz is an idiot.
no, Polanco was not sliding into third on that play -- his uniform is clean
They might as well be drinking, as much attention as they are paying.
I mean, I am.
Ok, how about some more hits.
Have never eaten at a Chick-fil-A or a Popeyes. Discussing with NBBW now. We're thinking of a chicken sandwich throwdown between the two. There's also a Broasterant in H'istan (patented technology).
POPEYE'S SPICY CHICKEN SANDWICH
we're actually hitting Chick-Fil-A tomorrow, as they have good salads and Mrs. Runner is hankering one
We had a Popeye's in town for a hot minute.
It's good. Slightly better than Chick-fil-A.
But I would rather have an El Pollo Loco or a good BBQ place near me.
A (long) while ago, I was on a work trip to San Antonio. For lunch, we went to an authentic smokehouse BBQ joint in the rough part of town. I went in and someone said 'you better take off the tie or it will end up there' and pointed to a wall of scissor-cut ties. I took mine off and stuffed it in my pocket.
Pork ribs were fab, coleslaw, fries. You could do worse. BTW on the street you could buy these tiny peppers which I used for years - piquin - awesome for burgers, etc.
I've never been to a Popeyes but one is coming to Mankato and Im a bit excited.
Popeye's is good, but Bojangle's is so much better. We make a point of hitting a Bojangle's any time we visit or drive through the south.
Raising Gaines.
We will be in Vegas and eating this tomorrow. Popeyes doesn't even come close.
Have not had bojangles.
Do you mean Raising Cane's? They don't even make a chicken sandwich; their chicken tenders are okay, but don't compare to rippin' strips
I generally much prefer bone-in chicken to chicken fingers, so Raising Cane's has never been a big priority for me. We have a new-ish one fairly close by, but I haven't been yet.
And I vaguely think we stopped at one in South Carolina in the middle of a long drive, but I only remember the exhaustion, not the food.
Sweet jesus, Cane's over Popeyes? Man, these are fighting words. I might actually drive to Vegas just to hash this out in person.
Cane's pros
decent chicken finger that was meat once actually on an animal and not pressed into a nugget shape.
Crinkle cut fries (if that is your jam)
Cons
Where is the bbq suace? Your ketchup in mayo is a joke.
The worst coleslaw on the planet
no spicy option (for the love of god you're a Louisiana company and you can't even add a dash of heat?!?!?)
The drive through only option is a pain in the ass (non covid edition) because now I'm eating once crispy food that has steamed itself in the styrofoam while I drive around looking for a place to park and eat in my car.
fries and slaw as the only sided. See note about slaw above. The. Worst.
Popeyes Pros
Options. Options Options.
Mix n match - You want 2 spicy and 1 regular in your 3 piece? You got it.
Spicy option across all menu items.
All the sides. (Spoiler alert - I've eaten a meal of only sides from Popeyes, and it was glorious) Pro tip - always get the dirty rice as the rice for your red beans.
Biscuits
I wish I could find fault with that chain, other than heart disease of course, but if I'm eating chicken from a chain it's
Gus's World Famous >>>>>>>>popeyes >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Cains >Churches>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>KFC>>>>>Chic-Fil-A.
Local, non chain, New Orleans purveyors of fried chicken bring the conversation to a totally different place. We'll leave that alone for now because if I keep writing I'll decide that I should have fried chicken for dinner. My cardiologist doesn't think that is a great idea.
This is the content I read this bulletin board for.
I used to really like the coleslaw at Rudolph's on the first floor at Galtier plaza. I think there was some horseradish in there.
I have never liked any cole slaw. I also will only eat vinegar-based potato salad (because mayo is the worst), so I'm a real treat at picnics and barbecues.
I've grown to eat coleslaw fine, but potato salad and baked beans are a waste of potatoes and beans, so I'm also not the most complete picnicker/BBQer
Bring on some warm German potato salad - bacon, apple-cider vinegar, skin-on-red potatoes, some sugar, and DIjon mustard.
Co-sign on the warm German potato salad.
But the complaints about 'Murican potato salad and baked beans are treasonous.
I never liked cole slaw as a kid, but my tastes have changed. A little mayo, sugar, vinegar, lots of celery seed,, and some salt and pepper. Shredded cabbage and carrots and maybe some onion. Great on pulled pork sandwiches. Good as a side. Also good with some hot sauce and a heavy hand on the vinegar to make it more Carolina style.
Or add some Mexican sour cream to turn it into a white sauce. Perfect for fish tacos.
That was a center-cut pork chop to Galvis
Get the bullpen up.
Amen.
wonder how many baserunners take 2nd vs. get thrown out by Rosario?
Still plenty of game left.
Nicely done.
Yankees lose, Sox getting crushed. Of course Cleveland ties game in bottom of 9th.
Marlins clinch postseason spot. Will they continue their streak?
Cleveland wins. No 4th seed locked up yet.
3 runs in bottom of 9th. But with Yanks loss, I think 4 seed is locked.
If we lose out and Cleveland wins out we are 7 seed pending what Sox do.
7 seed seems odd since we are guaranteed to have better record than Yanks, Jays, Astros, and Angels.
Agreed. But the tie-breaker rules say 1-3 is division winners, 4-6 is the divisional second place teams.
Smoltz talking and I just KNEW he had a GOML comment in his pocket ready to lay out for all of us to hear.
He did not disappoint.
JEEZE NO NOT BUXTON
I hope he doesnt have a concussion
That replay made it look not so bad, but great call to take him out anyway, just in case.
The ass bats have arrived early for the post season.
welcome to the Bigs... :/
game ovah
*58. Also, shit.
I’d like to make a request. Can the Twins have the Miguel Sano of the last three weeks of August back? Young man is making sawdust up there - batting .149 for the month of September with 35 SO & only 2 BB in 76 plate appearances whereas in the previous 74 PAs he hit .350 with “only” 28 strikeouts and 13 walks. His 1st inning at-bat with the bases juiced wasn’t even particularly competitive - 3 swinging strikes on 4 pitches ... and that was after Mahle had walked two of the first four Twins he faced.
Is John Smiley the best player to play for both the Twins and Reds?
Leo Cárdenas?
good call
Jim Merritt?
Trying to think of some
Im not that well versed in Reds history, for for most of my life they have been terrible.
John Smiley Corky Miller Eric Milton Javier Valentine and Juan Castro
I'm picturing Twins players in Reds baseball cards in my youth
Yes, terrible. Johnny Bench, Pete Rose, Ken Griffey.
Most of his life, not our lives
Good distinction.
Tom "The Blade" Hall
this would probably be my fav, although I liked Leo a lot.
Hall: 6.7 rWAR with the Twins, 1.0 with the Reds
Smiley: 5.1 and 8.1
Cardenas: 8.6 and 13.8
Merritt: 11.3 and 2.8
oh yeah -- Wayne Granger
Bringer of clues there
Mahle had better start finding the plate or he is gonna have a long, short night.
Atta boy, Eddie.
Bases juiced. Can haz crooked number?
dude, that cat talk doesn't work here -- didn't you learn that last game?
I'm not taking the blame for Byron going fishing.
Tough first pitch. 95 up and in.
robo umps now
Come on, Blue.
Cranking up the heat.
Well, crap.
oh ohh Donaldson had to leave the game
Marwin! playing some defense!
man Jose's curve is sweet
not getting those inside calls
That's 4 strikes this at bat
who is the color commentator on the Youtube?
he's got some off-my-lawn issues.
Smoltz...no wonder.
Freddie Galvis
Zat Travolta?
Yup. Battlefield: Earth
Stillsuits on Dune are cooler kit (think Stilgar).
New Dune trailer.
I'm all in.
oh, great. Re-injured calf for Donaldson.
Welp, hope he feels better for 2021.
Yea, not a good sign.
