After a mid-April Covid break, Twins up to play two against the Athletics.
As I write this, it has been announced Derek Chauvin verdict has been reached and by the time you read this, it will have been announced so not sure how much Twins notice attention will be.
Game 1: Shoemaker v. Manaea 5:30p
Game 2: Berrios v. Luzardo. 8:30p
Game 1 Line up
C - Garver
3b - Donaldson
DH - Cruz
CF - Buxton!!
SS - Polanco
1B - Sano
LF - Arraez
RF - Rooker
2b - Astudillo
Buxton picks up where he left off
Well, we know the elephant in the room when it comes to "positional flexibility"
I guess with a name like Shoemaker it follows that he's good at walking.
Mitch Moreland vs Matt Shoemaker = Jim Thome vs Rick Reed
Rocko decided to take a walk also.
I think Twins strike zone is also on COVID IL as well
I think LaTroy’s forgotten more about pitching than Dick has ever known, so I’d like the Duke to pipe down here.
Sheesh...
I think that on-field delay with Alcala and the umps got into his head.
It definitely seemed to affect him, and it also seemed like a totally unnecessary intrusion. As LaTroy said, you shouldn’t have to declare which position you’re pitching from.
Oof.
Not sure if you guys deal in marrow at the place, but last time in Minny, I got some beef bones at Brines, had the butcher cut them lengthwise, and then roasted them. I then scooped out the marrow for flavor in home-made rahmen (yum).
Later, boiled the bones in water to make bone broth, which NBBW used to hydrate arborio rice for mushroom risotto.
I've been pretty busy lately, but I had no idea the Twins had a player named Luke Farrell.
His record is--not terribly impressive. But I guess if it was, he wouldn't be coming into a game the Twins were trailing 7-0.
Don’t say that to his dad.
Sean Manaea is going to pitch a complete game
"complete game"
Nine out of ten (tree) doctors
smoke Chesterfieldseat a seven inning complete game as part of a balanced Manfred breakfast.Bats of ass.
Why burn Thorpe for an inning at this point? Just let Farrell finish the game.
This might be on me -- I just got back from picking up last year's Homer Hanky from the framers
What a frustrating, absolutely wretched streak of games.
I changed my mind. Seven-inning games are a good thing when it ends terrible games early.
La Tortuga was pulling off the BA higher than OBP trick (.304 to .292) going into tonight’s games.
need to get the bomba bats cooking
I'll never understand the Garver Leadoff Strategy
someone's got to lead off *shrug shoulder*
I’d understand it better if his OBP was 100 points higher.
Career .267/.362/.511 vs. lefties is a good start.
Getting on base is a start.
Mitch bleepin Moreland teeing off on our pitching
Brent Rooker playing the outfield is giving me _elmon Young flashbacks
I don’t know what mash-up would be more fun to see — a player who combined Luis Arráez’ batting skills & self-contained mentality with Nick Punto’s glove, or a player who combined Astudillo’s gonzo baseball intelligence & positional versatility with DSPAN2’s speed and hitting profile.
I think I lean towards the Astudillo/Span mashup but both would be cool to see.
Last scored in the sixth inning, and only that inning, in the sole Angels game. 14 zeros after that so far.
If you were to add the games Bob Melvin, Tony La Russa, and Bob Geren (5th most in Athletics franchise history) together, you would still be 161 games shy of Connie Mack’s record.
Ten managers in A’s history have managed 161 games or fewer...including Connie Mack’s son, Earle.
Melvin will pass Gardenhire in games managed next week. He will pass Earl Weaver sometime around the All-Star break.
Looking at baseball-reference, I didnt realize that era between Mack and LaRussa was a turbulent time for A's managers.
This umpiring crew is really leaving a lot to be desired.
Yeah, didnt understand why that pickoff play was ruled null
OMG. Arráez & Astudillo with the 7-4 double play!
Those two make up for so much of the frustration of all those years of the futility of Tolbert, Laddie, 0-for-Thrivas...
Can the A’s, the City of Oakland, and MLB quit playing chicken and build that Howard Terminal ballpark already?
Had to turn on audio to see what "Status Change - Delayed: Power" in Gameday means
describing the Twins offense
Meanwhile, in the bowels of the Coliseum...
If the game is called...is it suspended on account of darkness, or should Oakland be forced to forfeit due to unplayable conditions?
Man, RoboRooker looks far less capable than organic
MurphyRooker did.Wake me when we look like we're mounting a comeback. *sleeps soundly*
Delayed call for strike three to Donaldson. Because of course with this crew.
Delayed calls suck, but it looked like it go the corner.
It did, but given how both home plate umps messed with Twins pitchers tonight, it was a bit much.
Lucky leathah for us, there.
Sooooo many assbats.
Even Cruz & Buxton looked rough after not seeing pitching for several days. What rotten luck.
Because of the hamstring soreness, Buxton hadn't played in 8 days and because of COVID issues, he probably had to stay away from batting cages ever since the first postponement. I'm glad he got a hit his first ime.
La Tortuga. Sooooo close.
Uffda. That’s particularly deflating.
Gordo Flashback catch due to nighttime air.
If this was the first game, Twins probably go into the bottom of the 7th with the lead.
Twins hadn't been shut out till today. Last time they had been shut out prior to today was a 1-0 loss to the Cubs in September.
Pre-vaccinated Twins were 5-2. Post-vaccinated Twins drop to 1-8.
Also, has any team ever ended two win streaks of at least 9 games in the same month?
