Minor Details: Games of May 21

The Saints lose in the tenth.  The Wind Surge lose in the ninth.  Matt Canterino leads the Kernels to victory.  The Mighty Mussels lose in the ninth.

INDIANAPOLIS 6, ST. PAUL 4 IN ST. PAUL (10 INNINGS)

Jimmy Kerrigan's two-run homer capped a three-run eighth that tied it 4-4.  In the tenth, however, Kevin Kramer hit a two-run homer and the Saints went down in order.

Batting stars:  J. T. Riddle was 2-for-3 with two doubles and two RBIs.  Tomas Telis was 2-for-5.  Kerrigan was 1-for-4 with a two-run homer, his second.

Pitching stars:  Charlie Barnes pitched 4.2 innings, giving up two runs on eight hits and one walk and striking out two.  Ian Hamilton pitched a scoreless inning, giving up two walks.

Opposition stars:  Kramer was 3-for-4 with a home run (his second), a double, two walks, two runs, and four RBIs.  Bligh Madris was 2-for-3 with two walks and two runs.  James Marvel pitched 5.1 innings, giving up an unearned run on three hits and three walks and striking out four.

Good stats:  Nick Gordon was 1-for-5 and is batting .360.  Hamilton has an ERA of 2.84.

Bad stats:  Keon Broxton was 0-for-3 and is batting .176.  Riddle is batting .186,  Brent Rooker was 1-for-5 and is batting .191.  Tom Hackimer gave up a run in two-thirds of an inning and has an ERA of 13.50.

Record:  The Saints are 6-10, in sixth place, 4.5 games behind Indianapolis.

TULSA 4, WICHITA 3 IN TULSA

The Wind Surge led 3-2 after six, but the Drillers tied it in the seventh and Stevie Berman's RBI double ended it in the ninth.

Batting stars:  Gilberto Celestino was 3-for-4 with a walk.  Peter Mooney was 1-for-3 with two walks.

Pitching star:  Cole Sands struck out nine in 5.2 innings, giving up two runs (one earned) on four hits and no walks.

Opposition stars:  Gerardo Carrillo struck out six in 4.1 innings, giving up one run on three hits and two walks.  Bryan Warzek struck out four in two shutout innings, giving up one hit and two walks.

Good stats:  Jose Miranda was 0-for-2 and is batting .333.  Hector Lujan allowed a run in one inning and has an ERA of 1.00.

Bad stats:  Sherman Johnson was 0-for-2 and is batting .067.  Andrew Bechtold was 0-for-4 and is batting .163.  Caleb Hamilton was 0-for-3 and is batting .194.  Dakota Chalmers gave up an unearned run in 1.2 innings and has an ERA of 10.45.

Record:  The Wind Surge is 9-7, tied for second place with Tulsa, a half game behind Arkansas.

CEDAR RAPIDS 2, BELOIT 1 IN CEDAR RAPIDS

Matt Wallner's RBI single broke a 1-1 tie in the fifth.

Batting stars:  Gabriel Maciel was 2-for-3.  Wander Javier was 2-for-4 with a double.  Wallner was 2-for-4 with a double.

Pitching stars:  Matt Canterino struck out ten in six innings, giving up one run on two hits and no walks.  Jordan Gore struck out four in two shutout innings, giving up one hit.  Melvi Acosta struck out two in a perfect inning.

Opposition stars:  Zach King struck out eight in six innings, giving up two runs on five hits and three walks.  Jackson Rose struck out two in two shutout innings, giving up two hits.

Good stats:  Wallner is batting .333.  Canterino has an ERA of 1.29.  Gore has an ERA of 1.74.  Acosta has an ERA of 1.93.

Bad stats:  Chris Williams was 0-for-2 and is batting .111.  Leobaldo Cabrera was 0-for-2 and is batting .143.  Michael Helman was 0-for-2 and is batting .162.  Javier is batting .170.

The Mighty Mussels led 5-0 through two and a half, were behind 7-5 going to the ninth, scored two in the ninth to tie it, but lost in the bottom of the ninth on a walkoff two-run homer by Pat DeMarco.

Batting stars:  Wander Valdez was 3-for-5.  Willie Joe Garry, Jr. was 2-for-4 with three RBIs.  Anthony Prato was 2-for-4 with a walk.  Keoni Cavaco was 2-for-5.  Edouard Julien was 0-for-1 with three walks and two runs.

Pitching stars:  None.

Opposition stars:  DeMarco was 2-for-4 with a two-run homer (his fourth), a walk, and two runs.  Austin Wells was 2-for-5 with three RBIs.  Jake Sanford was 1-for-4 with a home run.

Starter:  Sawyer Gipson-Long struck out seven in  five innings but allowed four runs on three hits and three walks.

Good stats:  Julien is batting .327.  Prato is batting .304.

Bad stats:  Aaron Sabato was 0-for-4 and is batting .127.  Garry, Jr. is batting .154.  Jeferson Morales was 1-for-3 and is batting .162.  Gipson-Long has an ERA of 16.20.  Matthew Swain allowed two runs in two innings and has an ERA of 12.46.
