ST. PAUL 2, LOUISVILLE 1 IN LOUISVILLE (GAME 1--7 INNINGS)

The Saints scored one in the first and one in the second and it was enough, as two pitchers silenced the Bats.

Batting star:  J. T. Riddle was 1-for-3 with a home run, his fourth.  The Saints had just three hits.

Pitching stars:  Chandler Shepherd pitched 5.2 innings, giving up one run on two hits and a walk and striking out one.  Derek Law retired all four men he faced, striking out one.

Opposition stars:  Narciso Crook was 2-for-2 with a home run, the only two hits for the Bats.  Tony Santillan struck out thirteen in a complete game, giving up two runs on three hits and four walks.

Good stats:  None.

Bad stats:  Daniel Descalso was 0-for-1 and is batting .063.  Drew Maggi was 0-for-3 and is batting .162.  Sherman Johnson was 1-for-3 and is batting .182.  Mark Contreras was 0-for-3 and is batting .185.  Law lowered his ERA to 5.68.

Pitching stars:  Rob Whalen struck out three in three hitless innings, giving up three walks.  Danny Coloumbe retired all seven men he faced, striking out two.  Ian Hamilton struck out three in 1.2 innings, giving up an unearned run on one hit and two walks.

Opposition stars:  Alejo Lopez was 1-for-2 with a walk, the only hit for the Bats.

Good stats:  Whalen has an ERA of 1.08.  Hamilton has an ERA of 1.64.  Coloumbe has an ERA of 2.51.

Bad stats:  David Banuelos was 0-for-2 and is batting zero.  Keon Broxton was 1-for-3 and is batting .169.  Maggi was 1-for-3 and is batting .175.  Jimmy Kerrigan was 0-for-2 and is batting .194.

Record:  The Saints are 15-13, in second place in the AAA Central-Midwest, 4.5 games behind Omaha.

WICHITA 8, ARKANSAS 5 IN WICHITA (10 INNINGS)

Jose Miranda hit a three-run homer in the tenth to win it for the Wind Surge.

Batting stars:  Ernie De La Trinidad was 3-for-4 with a home run (his second), a double, and three RBIs.  Jermaine Palacios was 2-for-5 with a double.  Miranda was 2-for-6 with a three-run homer, his seventh.

Pitching stars:  Alex Phillips pitched 2.2 scoreless innings, giving up two hits and striking out two.  Ryan Mason struck out three in two shutout innings, giving up two hits.  Yennier Cano pitched a scoreless inning, giving up two hits and striking out one.

Opposition stars:  Bobby Honeyman was 4-for-5 with a double.  Jake Scheiner was 3-for-6 with a home run and two runs.  Joe Rizzo was 3-for-6 with a double.

Good stats:  B. J. Boyd was 1-for-3 and is batting .450.  Palacios is batting .318.  Miranda is batting .313.  Aaron Whitefield was 1-for-4 and is batting .313.  De La Trinidad is batting .304.  Cano has an ERA of 1.23.

The TinCaps scored one in the seventh to tie it and one in the eighth to take the lead.

Pitching star:  Jon Olsen pitched five innings, giving up one run on two hits and a walk and striking out four.

Opposition stars:  Luis Almanzar was 2-for-4 with a triple.  Matt Waldron struck out five in five innings, giving up two runs on six hits and no walks.
