Minor Details: Games of July 8

Jose Miranda keeps hitting.  A tough day for Austin Schulfer.  Wander Javier walks one off.  Willie Joe Garry, Jr. starts to turn it around.

ST. PAUL 10, IOWA 3 IN IOWA

It was scoreless through two, but then the Saints scored seven in the third.  Willians Astudillo hit a three-run double and Jimmy Kerrigan had a two-run homer in the inning.

Batting stars:  Jose Miranda was 2-for-3 with two doubles, two walks, and two runs.  Astudillo was 2-for-5 with a home run, a double, two runs, and four RBIs.  Mark Contreras was 2-for-5 with a triple.  Damek Tomscha was 2-for-5.  Kerrigan was 1-for-5 with a two-run homer, his seventh.  Drew Maggi was 1-for-2 with a two-run homer (his seventh), a walk, and two runs.

Pitching stars:  Ian Hamilton pitched 2.1 scoreless innings, giving up one hit and striking out two.  Kyle Barraclough struck out two in 1.1 scoreless innings, giving up a walk.

Opposition stars:  Ex-Twin Tyler Ladendorf was 2-for-4 with a double.  Ian Miller was 2-for-5.  Trevor Megill struck out five in two perfect innings.

Starter:  Charlie Barnes pitched 5.1 innings, giving up three runs on five hits and three walks and striking out four.

Good stats:  Miranda is batting .361.  Hamilton was an ERA of 1.08.

Bad stats:  David Banuelos was 0-for-3 and is batting .179.

Record:  The Saints are 28-28, tied for third in the AAA East/Midwest, seven games behind Omaha.

NORTHWEST ARKANSAS 10, WICHITA 1 IN WICHITA

The Naturals scored six runs in the first inning.  The Wind Surge had just two hits.

Batting star:  Aaron Whitefield was 1-for-3 with a double and a walk.

Pitching star:  Jovani Moran struck out five in three shutout innings, giving up one hit.

Opposition stars:  Clay Dungan was 4-for-5 with a double.  Dairon Blanco was 2-for-5 with a home run (his sixth), two runs, and three RBIs.  Jon Heasley struck out six in 4.1 innings, giving up one run on two hits and two walks.

Starter:  Austin Schulfer pitched one inning, allowing six runs (four earned) on five hits and two walks.  He struck out none.

Good stats:  Ernie De La Trinidad was 0-for-4 and is batting .310.  Moran has an ERA of 1.75.  Ryan Mason allowed one run in 2.1 innings and has an ERA of 2.76.

Bad stats:  Jhonleider Salinas allowed three runs in 2.1 innings and has an ERA of 13.50.

Record:  The Wind Surge is 31-26, in second place in the AA Central/North, one percentage point behind Tulsa.

CEDAR RAPIDS 4, PEORIA 1 IN CEDAR RAPIDS (12 INNINGS)

It was scoreless through nine.  Each team scored in the tenth and neither scored in the eleventh.  Wander Javier hit a three-run walkoff homer in the twelfth.

Batting star:  Javier was 1-for-5 with a three-run homer, his seventh.

Pitching stars:  Tyler Beck pitched 4.1 scoreless innings, giving up two hits and a walk and striking out one.  Derek Molina struck out four in 2.1 scoreless innings, giving up a hit and a walk.  Owen Griffith struck out two in two shutout innings, giving up two hits.  Ryan Shreve struck out three in three innings, giving up an unearned run on no hits and no walks.

Opposition stars:  Pedro Pages was 2-for-4 with a walk.  Brady Whalen was 2-for-5.  Michael YaSenka struck out eight in six shutout innings, giving up three hits and a walk.

Good stats:  Shreve has an ERA of 1.88.  Beck has an ERA of 1.93.

FORT MYERS 9, ST. LUCIE 7 IN ST. LUCIE

The Mets scored five in the third to go ahead 6-1, but the Mighty Mussels scored five in the seventh to make it 6-6.  Keoni Cavaco's two-run double in the eighth put Fort Myers in the lead to stay.

Batting stars:  Willie Joe Garry, Jr. was 3-for-5 with a triple.  Cavaco was 2-for-4 with a double, a walk, and two RBIs.  Yunior Severino was 2-for-4 with a double and a walk.  Charles Mack was 2-for-5 with a two-run homer (his fourth) and two runs.  Jeferson Morales was 2-for-5 with a home run (his sixth) and two RBIs.  Aaron Sabato was 2-for-5 with a home run, his fourth.

Pitching stars:  Matthew Swain pitched 2.1 scoreless innings, giving up two walks and striking out two.  Bradley Hanner pitched a perfect inning and struck out one.  Zarion Sharpe struck out four in three innings, giving up one run on four hits and a walk.

Opposition stars:  Edgardo Fermin was 2-for-3 with a home run, two walks, and two runs.  Branden Fryman was 2-for-4.  Johneshwy Fargas was 1-for-4 with a three-run homer, his second.
