I understand all the issues with the Olympic Industrial Complex and all, but I do feel Japan got pretty screwed with their turn this time.
Anyway, on the games themselves, does anyone have any favorite moments?

Felix setting a new record for number of medals is pretty awesome though I'm not really thrilled by some of the commentary. I guess I shouldn't read the comment section...
Individual sprinting medals in 5 Olympics.
Unbelievable.
Felix.
Sifan Hassan with 2 golds and a bronze in three women's distance events
Women's 1500 with Faith Kipyegon defending her Olympic title in Olympic record fashion.
Gable Dan and the Magical 13 Seconds to Gold
US women's volleyball reducing Karch Kiraly to (joyful) tears
Women's 400 hurdles (I missed the men's race)
women's 4X400 relay
Valarie Allman's gold in Women's discus
Ryan Crouser (gold) and Joe Kovacs (silver) in Men's shot put
Mu Athing gold and US record in women's 800
I didn't watch too much of the games, but I tuned into the shot put final because the third American on the team, Payton Otterdahl, is an NDSU grad (and two-time national champion) and I was hoping he'd get a personal best in the Finals (which would have put him on the medal stand). Alas, he didn't have it in the finals and never even got on TV. He's young though and maybe next time.
That Crouser dude, though, wow. He's a different animal. And Kovacs, bench presses over 700 lbs. He's pretty awesome, too. It's just that Crouser has like the perfect body for this sport. He's extremely tall (6'7), whereas Kovacs looks like a bowling ball by comparison. Crouser is still pretty young (28) and can probably win again, and maybe again.
Pre-pandemic, WIRED had a series of videos about "impossible" world records. One was about the shot put record and featured Crouser prominently.
Thanks for that. Crouser is 6’7 315 and runs a 4.8 40. That’s insane.
the shot put game has changed a lot from when I was competing. With the spin technique, ideal body types are a lot more like ideal body types for the discus (loooong).
Also all the Titmus-Ledecky races. Those were fun to watch.

Hadn’t seen that one. Great visuals. Thanks!
Yeah, that one is insanely well composed.
I would hope Japan insured things somehow. If any country would have had the sense to do it, I think it would be Japan. Of course that doesn’t replace the pomp of having a normal olympics.
Only six more months until we get to do this again!
at least this time there will be curling.
I decided to go to Great Clips today and get my hair chopped, just in case we go into lockdowns again. I cant do another full year without a cut
Better stock up on toilet paper, too.
Really big events such as Jazz Fest are getting canceled for October dates here in the city that care forgot. I'm afraid for youse who are able to life your best lives outdoors right now......
So New Orleans has lost the Jazz twice.
Twice this year! Three times total so far. Next it’ll be the Utah jazz and heritage event.
R. I. P. Markie Post. She was in a number of shows, but I'll always remember her from Night Court. She passed away from cancer at the age of seventy.
Night Court was such an enjoyable show. RIP, Markie.
@DPWY, you'll have to wait until Spring 2022 to see the stones at Jazz Fest.
I went so long after being vax'd without a close contact that I forgot what it feels like to have the rug pulled out from under me. Team member's kid is in a 4 kid pod with at least one confirmed positive test and a second likely. Everyone gets to figure out how to work from home now. Institution is starting to rethink what it means to be on staff if we can't be on site....... Those are some ugly thoughts.
A couple across our street moved away to NoCar. He was retired from a local utility, and on the side wrote Sherlock Holmes derivative novels - I've read a few - not bad. The house sold in 3 days. And now there is a truck parked by the house - Sadie's Professional Cleaning Services.
According to the truck, they specialize in Trauma and Crime Scene Cleanup, Extreme Cleanup, Hoarding and Animal Hoarding Clean Up, Infectious Disease Clean Up, Radical Bug Infestation Extraction and Clean Up, Fentanyl and Methamphetamine Drug Decontamination, Animal Infestation Clean Up. Crazy image of Sadie wearing a WWI gas mask on the truck.
7 Percent Solution Cleanup
“Which is it to-day?” I asked,—“morphine or cocaine?”
He raised his eyes languidly from the old black-letter volume which he had opened. “It is cocaine,” he said,—“a seven-per-cent. solution. Would you care to try it?”
“No, indeed,” I answered, brusquely. “My constitution has not got over the Afghan campaign yet. I cannot afford to throw any extra strain upon it.”
I could have used those services cleaning out my oldest’s college era fridge.
