ST. PAUL 9, IOWA 4 IN ST. PAUL

With the Saints trailing 4-2, Drew Maggi hit a grand slam in the sixth to put them into the lead to stay.

Batting stars:  Mark Contreras was 3-for-4 with a double, two runs, and three RBIs.  Maggi was 2-for-4 with a grand slam, his twelfth homer.  Tomas Telis was 2-for-4 with two runs.

Pitching stars:  Ian Gibaut struck out four in 1.2 scoreless innings, giving up two hits and two walks.  Yennier Cano pitched 1.1 scoreless innings, walking one and striking out one.  Ian Hamilton struck out two in a perfect inning.

Opposition star:  Ian Miller was 2-for-4 with two RBIs.

Starter:  Beau Burrows pitched 3.2 innings, giving up three runs on three hits and a walk and striking out three.

Good stats:  Jose Miranda was 0-for-5 and is batting .330.  Hamilton has an ERA of 2.85.

Bad stats:  Gibaut has an ERA of 7.38.

WICHITA 14, SPRINGFIELD 6 IN SPRINGFIELD

The Wind Surge scored four in the first and led all the way.

Burt was 3-for-4 with a walk.  Spencer Steer was 3-for-5 with a double and two runs.  Andrew Bechtold was 3-for-6 with a home run (his fifteenth), a double, two runs, and four RBIs.  Aaron Whitefield was 2-for-4.  Roy Morales was 2-for-5 with two RBIs.  Trey Cabbage was 2-for-5.  Leobaldo Cabrera was 1-for-5 with a home run (his sixth), two runs, and four RBIs.

Pitching stars:  None.

Opposition stars:  Julio E. Rodriguez was 4-for-5 with a double and two RBIs.  Nick Dunn was 2-for-5.

Starter:  Austin Schulfer struck out five in five innings, but allowed four runs on seven hits and two walks.

Good stats:  Boyd is batting .316.  Morales is batting .307.  Burt is batting .302.

Bad stats:  Alex Phillips gave up a run in two innings and has an ERA of 5.87.  Adam Lau struck out the only man he faced and has an ERA of 6.48.

CEDAR RAPIDS 9, WISCONSIN 8 IN CEDAR RAPIDS

The Kernels scored two in the ninth to win it.  Yunior Severino doubled home the tying run and Wander Javier singled in the deciding run.

Batting stars:  Severino was 4-for-6 with two doubles.  Edouard Julien was 2-for-3 with three walks, three runs, and two RBIs.  Michael Helman was 2-for-3 with two walks.  Seth Gray was 1-for-5 with a three-run homer, his ninth.

Pitching stars:  Osiris German pitched 1.2 scoreless innings despite giving up three hits and two walks.  He struck out one.  Denny Bentley made his High-A debut and struck out four in 2.1 scoreless innings, giving up one hit.  Ryan Shreve struck out three in 1.2 scoreless innings, giving up two hits.

Opposition stars:  Zavier Warren was 3-for-4 with a walk and two runs.  Antonio Pinero was 3-for-4 with a walk.  Joe Gray, Jr. was 3-for-5 with two RBIs.

Starter:  Tyler Watson pitched 2.2 innings, allowing six runs on eight hits and a walk and striking out two.

Good stats:  Severino is batting .434.  Jeferson Morales was 1-for-4 and is batting .419.  Bentley has an ERA of zero.

Kyler Fedco singled home a run in the seventh to break a 2-2 tie and the Mighty Mussels scored three in the ninth.

Batting stars:  Jesus Feliz was 2-for-3 with a home run (his fourth) and two walks.  Misael Urbina was 2-for-4 with a home run (his fifth) and a walk.  Willie Joe Garry, Jr. was 2-for-4 with a triple.  Fedco was 2-for-4.

Pitching stars:  Aaron Rozek struck out four in three shutout innings, giving up one hit.  Matt Mullenbach struck out five in 3.1 scoreless innings, giving up three hits.

Opposition star:  MacKenzie Muller was 2-for-3.

DUNEDIN 2, FORT MYERS 0 IN DUNEDIN (SCHEDULED GAME--7 INNINGS)

The Mighty Mussels were no-hit.  The Blue Jays scored single runs in the fourth and sixth.

Pitching star:  Casey Legumina struck out seven in four innings, giving up one run on four hits and no walks.
