    1. Larnach has the highest DRS and UZR on the team. OAA has him at zero but possibly negative with larger sample size.

      1. Don't ask those defensive metrics need close to a full season before they are meaningful?

        1. It takes about two years for fielding numbers to stabilize. Players can have good fielding stretches like having a 5-5 game.

          1. But there are so few plays that separate the good and bad fielders that it takes more than a few games.

            1. DRS and UZR use zones too. A couple generous allotments of where the ball was caught, especially if a player was positioned differently than those systems realized, would do a lot for making the player look good. Turning a ball in the gap into an out is around 0.7 runs. It only takes a few in small sample sizes to look good.

  1. I've been quite impressed with our young prospects/replacements while the team went through its injury streak. Lewis absolutely looks show-ready. Celestino appears to have a plan at the plate and a lot more confidence. All of the arms have stepped up and pitched well. It just seems like we have really good depth this year, the kind that can position you well for a pennant race.

    1. Check that, I was sure I heard that on the radio last night but B-R says no, his R/L split is .256/.244. But he is getting on base more against left-handers, .365/.351.

    1. He raised his average to .336 today, I believe. Doesn't appear to have quite enough at bats to qualify at the moment, but if he did he'd be 5th. B-R has him ranked 8th, but that's by adding enough hitless at bats to qualify him.

      1. Celestino's improvement has been night and day. In 59 at bats last year he hit .136. In 62 at bats this year he's hitting .355. His OPS+ has gone from 27 last year to 154 this year. Talk about breaking out.

  2. Better late than never: Minor Details, covering yesterday's games, is now posted.

    1. This reads like a 19th century game story, including various methods of murdering people.
