    1. Wondering the same. I'll be racing up from central IA on Sunday and could pick someone up along the way, although they'd have to catch a different ride home.

    2. It's still on if the citizenry is willing and able. I chose not to close the restaurant that day due to the fact that I have staff begging for hours and had very few requests for time off that day. I did take the day off, so that I can sit down with hopefully a bunch of you to talk Twins, beer, food, music, life, etc. I will reserve a portion of the patio (weather permitting) for our group. If weather is bad, we will book an area in the lounge and watch the game. I would say all interested could show between 11am and noonish. It would be helpful to get a head count, so let me know if you are coming and if you are bringing guests. I will connect with Nibbish ahead of time to see what else we can do to make this a fun time! Greatly looking forward to it!

      1. This Sunday or Monday, I forget.

I will take this info back to the Permanent Roommate and let you know by tomorrow.

      2. I am planning to be there. Philosofette & the Thinkers won't be making the trip, so I'll be less encumbered than usual. Looking forward to it!

      3. I wish I could make it, but that is the Nephew's graduation day and I have to go to that.

    1. I thought it was a little blown out of proportion but Donaldson has the reputation of being an a-hole so most just assume he's being an a-hole. Probably would have been taken differently if it were someone else.

      1. I read Donaldson's explanation - he was apparently referencing an old article where TA called himself the modern Jackie Robinson. It seemed to me like Donaldson's explanation was "I'm not a racist, I'm just a jerk!"

        1. If a friend of mine called himself the modern day Jackie Robinson or the modern day Abraham Lincoln or something outlandish like that, I'd absolutely be teasing them about it.

            1. No. I was just saying that it was the fact that Josh said it, not what he said.

I still don't understand how that results in a near fight.

        2. I have a friend who is a White Sox fan, so when that article came out we talked about it a lot. It's entirely possible I've called Anderson "Jackie Robinson" a few times when texting my friend. So it is very much not a stretch for me to imagine Donaldson having a similar ongoing conversation with a friend/teammate that unfortunately bled into a real interaction. This is me giving Donaldson the benefit of the doubt, which I don't know if he deserves, but it's not like he and I will ever meet!

Anyway, that same friend, who lives in New Jersey, was at the White Sox - Yankees game last night. He said the Yankees fans lustily booed Anderson all night, so it appears a loud segment of that fanbase has picked their side. My friend enjoyed the fans fleeing toward the exists after Anderson's home run. 😆

        3. Here’s the full quote from the SI piece Donaldson claims to reference:

The color barrier fell 72 years ago. Anderson honored the occasion by wearing number 42 on the anniversary of the debut of the man who broke it, as do all major league players and staff, and by hosting a private screening of 42, the 2013 biopic, for kids from the White Sox’ Amateur City Elite program, which introduces inner-city Chicago youngsters to baseball. But he sees another barrier, one he’s intent on toppling: the “have-fun barrier.”

“I kind of feel like today’s Jackie Robinson,” he says. “That’s huge to say. But it’s cool, man, because he changed the game, and I feel like I’m getting to a point to where I need to change the game.”

I’ll let folks judge for themselves whether Tim Anderson comparison of himself to Jackie Robinson has merit, but there’s no denying he made the claim. My personal feeling is that Anderson can engage in all the self-laudatory comparisons he wants, but maybe he should choose them (both to the figure and situation) more judiciously if he doesn’t want to be needled or mocked.

          1. That quote is pretty innocuous now that I see it, but I’m not surprised at all that an opponent (or even a teammate) would take it and run.

            1. I also think there is a difference between your pals calling your opinions jejune and Josh Donaldson doing it.

              1. Donaldson seems like both the kind of guy who has a good memory for things opponents say or do that he could use to get in their head, and someone who has absolutely no qualms about rubbing people the wrong way to gain every advantage.

          2. A couple of tidbits:

When Anderson says "... and I feel like I'm getting to a point to where I need to change the game", I feel he just might be referring to the fact that African American representation in the MLB, is not too impressive. He sounds to me like he wants to do something about it, like hosting the private screening of 42 for youth players. So, just maybe, he has some good intentions going on here.

Secondly, I have a hard time believing that Anderson, and his teammates, wanted to start a bench clearing brawl simply because Donaldson jokingly referred to Anderson as Jackie. Perhaps there is more going on here, and Donaldson's reputation would make it pretty easy to believe there is something more to the story. I despise the White Sox just as much as the Yankees, but I am very cautious to assign blame or direct ridicule to the guy who is trying to do something positive for the game and the under represented. Trying to put myself in Anderson's shoes (which is impossible to truly do), I lend myself to compassion for his cause.

              1. There's names for guys like that.

If he is not careful, the name for "guys like that" will be "Josh".
