  1. Today I'm using my employee comp tickets to take Mrs. Twayn, Elder Daughter and Fiancé to the baseball game. This will be the 5th major league game I attend in the span of a week. That's a personal best.

    1. Rory just couldn't get a birdie on the back 9. But yeah absolute stones by Cam Smith

    2. A true champion

  2. The Aurora are heading to the USL W League Championship game in their inaugural season. Pretty cool!

  3. Baseball (indeed, athletics, generally) has been a real challenge for Aquinas. Batting has been especially tough, with a pronounced fear of the ball that first was its own problem, and then had some pretty awful residual effects on his swing. It's tough enough, and then being one of the worst players on the team adds even more challenges. But he has really put in a ton of effort, and this weekend in their year-end tournament he got to contribute in a few small ways and experience his first taste of success. He moved up a runner (who then scored from 2nd) with his first ball-in-play in 2 years, and did a nice job fielding both of the balls that came to him in the outfield. It was a very small contribution on a team with a lot of talent (2nd place out of 15 in the tournament), but he had fun being part of something.

I had every expectation that this would be his last summer of baseball, and my goal was for him to have fun, above all else. So that someday, if he wants to play on a softball team or whatever he could join in and have a good time. Well, it seems the season was a success, because he had enough fun that he's even talking about playing next year. I couldn't be happier about this season.

    1. Lee, MLB.com’s No. 5 prospect, is perhaps the best all-around college hitter in this year’s Draft. His bat-to-ball skills are excellent -- the 21-year-old hit .357 with 15 home runs and 25 doubles this season. He boasts excellent plate discipline as well. Lee walked more times than he struck out this season (46 to 28). And, oh yeah, he does it from both sides of the plate.

Can he play short next year for a few months until Lewis is ready?
