July 29, 2022: Non-Negotiable

Other than, like, Buxton, who is absolutely not allowed to be traded?

How many new players on the Twins' 26-player roster after trade deadline?

    1. well, first off:

Buxton received a full no-trade clause in the deal and will be paid $500,000 every time he reaches 502, 533, 567, 600 and 625 plate appearances, the sources said.

        1. I would imagine there's a large consensus on not trading Buxton besides, but maybe I'm not in touch with the fanbase. Anyway, was just asking people's opinions; we're obviously not the FO.

  1. Reposting this:

Folks, Fleet Foxes at Surly Brewery next Tuesday. $50.

Anyone interested in seeing them with me? My usual team all have other things going.

  2. Entering an interesting phase in my life. One consulting project done on a new restaurant 45 minutes away. Consulting project already in the works on helping a local brewery launch food. I have designed a menu and kitchen and in a couple months I will help hire and develop a team to execute. I will then oversee in a consulting role. Today, a silent investor of mine , approached me about consulting on a big restaurant remodel and relaunch on a lake 20 minutes south of us. A book of face group I am involved with was started by the author of Restaurant Strong, a very successful book he launched about a year ago. The book of face group is always communicating amongst each other and has members from all over the world. The author has launched a you tube series in conjunction with the book and a new feature will be an interview series where he picks the brain of successful restauranteurs. He asked me a few days ago if I would be his first interview.
Wow! A lot of steam. As a result, I am reassessing my long term strategic plan and I may soon shift my energies to a consulting business. I am actively looking for a very strong manager to come in and fill my role at Pike. Over the next few years I see myself still working 2-3 days here, continuing to develop my team and being the face of the franchise. The rest of my time would be starting up a consulting firm and building a team that would do the following:

Spend a week at a location assessing the needs. Weeks 2 and 3 installing a new menu and other systematic changes, along with leadership development for the team in place (or replacing the team). Dropping in once a week for a month or so to audit performance and provide support. Zoom meetings with the management team weekly for 3-6 months.

After I get a year or so under my belt, I write the book. So... what do you all think? If you think I am nuts feel free to say so. I am floating this all by a few different groups of friends to get feedback. I value yours! Thanks!

    1. I think it's an awesome plan! How can anyone think you're nuts when the opportunity sounds like it found you?

    2. Haha, I told you you were crazy when you told us you decided to open the restaurant (I tried to find that comment thread the other day; I remember it was at like 2 in the morning). I had no doubt you’d be successful, just that it was such an undertaking. You’re still crazy, but it sounds like a fun way to stretch out your creativity. Sounds like a a lot of work, but perhaps less stressful somehow…?

Also, the WGOM claims production rights to your future show, Pikes, Pints, and Places.

    3. You're going to have to get medieval on people at times and tell them stuff they're not going to want to hear. Think you can Derek Falvey okay?

    1. Low-risk move where maybe you get lucky. He was a pretty good pitcher through 2019, then hurt his shoulder and hasn't been the same since. He's pitched really well in AAA this year, though, so maybe he's finally healthy. Best-case scenario is that he can come up and fill some innings in the bullpen. If not, he stays in St. Paul.

    1. According to howmanyofme.com, there are 161 people in the United States with the last name "Jetson". So that should help narrow the search.

  3. Mariners acquired Luis Castillo. I don't know if any other players or cash are going with Castillo, but the Reds got a haul back according to BTV.

  4. I'm not sure the Twins should be buyers.

    1. My guess is that the Twins will pick up a couple of middling relievers, maybe an average starter, maybe a defense-first catcher, and that's about it. But we'll see.

      1. I'm with you. And I'm ok with not overpaying when your team isn't really that good.

        1. I'm falling in the same camp. Twins just don't have the assets to acquire players for them to compete against Astros and Yanks. I'd like to see some improvements so that they can win division (low bar but take what you can get), maybe, win a wildcard series, and then a game or two against Astros/Yankees in ALDS. To me that's a successful season.

          1. I certainly don't want to see them moving the young talent for more middling veteran pitching. But we could use a good defensive catcher with a strong arm.

    2. I don't think I agree. This team isn't outright mediocre; they're very good with some very large weaknesses.

It isn't often that you can look at a first place team and so clearly identify areas for dramatic improvement. Some improvement, sure, but huge improvement? But that's what you have with this year's Twins. Bullpen, 4th/5th starters, and Catcher are liabilities that could become strengths with the right moves.

      1. I'm in agreement with most Citizens here. This team will never be a juggernaut, but if they can be fun spoilers and are also built for future success, then by all means do a little bolstering and make the Guardians/Sox seasons hell. No teeth gnashing from this fan
