  1. Good morning! I just wanted to let you know that I will not be writing Minor Details anymore.

Mom A's nursing home is closing, and she is coming to the nursing home in Gettysburg, where I live. That's a good thing in a lot of ways. We have an excellent nursing home in Gettysburg, and she will get very high-quality care. Plus, it puts her a lot closer to family. I can go see her every day if I want to, and in fact, I want to. But the time to do that has to come from somewhere, and so, sadly, Minor Details has to go.

If someone wants to take it over, you have my blessing. If not, Twins Daily provides very good minor league recaps, better than mine in a lot of ways. And maybe, at some point, life will change and I can pick it up again. I'll miss it, probably more than anyone else, but it's what needs to be. I just wanted to let you know.

    1. I hope you and MomA enjoy this extra time together. Thanks for all the updates over the years, they've been fun to read (even though I rarely commented (but that's on me :/ ))

      Here's to you, Padre.

    2. The opportunity to spend more time with a parent is a blessing for both of you. Given how much you’ve written here over the years, this sabbatical is richly deserved.

    3. Thank you for keeping us minor-league-fresh for all of these years. It does not go unnoticed!

I hope you have some great daily time with your mother going forward!

  2. I just finished digging up my front yard. I spent almost three weeks digging down about six inches with a small garden fork tool, working around tree roots to pick out several pounds of oxalis bulblets (smany as big as a finger joint).

Probably futile. And worse, I did not get paid to rip out my front lawn.

    1. This stuff is evil.

      Bermuda Buttercup (Buttercup Oxalis)
Bermuda buttercup is a perennial that grows in full sun in cool coastal areas, but inland it grows primarily in semishaded sites. It grows upright and is larger and showier than creeping woodsorrel.

It develops from bulbs that sprout and grow in the fall. The plant forms a single, short, vertical stem that is mostly underground. Leaves form a loose basal rosette on the soil surface. The leaves are comprised of 3 heart-shaped leaflets and are larger and more succulent than those of creeping woodsorrel; they often are spotted with purple dots.

Small, whitish bulblets develop on the stem at the base of the rosette of leaves, and new bulbs form underground. A plant forms about a dozen small bulbs per year, each less than 1 inch long. Bermuda buttercup also can produce a lateral stem (runner) that forms a new, aboveground plant.

    1. We're a big City we can handle it. I've wanted to try to hit a Twins/Saints same day doubleheader. There was one opportunity in June when the Twins had a rare Saturday day game and Saints at night. Could kind be possible today as Saints have a early double header and then perhaps Loons.

  3. Since I'm in Minnesota with the family until I fly out on Monday, we just decided to head to the Twins game tomorrow. I think it's been at least 6 years since we've been to Target Field, so looking forward to it. And, thanks to the tips earlier this week, we're going to try to hit up the discount family concession stands. So, thanks all!
