  1. The rental car is a Durango with a plenty of storage space for our junk travel items, but everyone is grumpy about something or other; can't wait to hit the road and everyone starts their naps.

  2. Based on the other contracts being thrown around, it looks like Connelly is getting some good value a t low, low prices.

  4. Experimenting with a new drink (at least as far as I know of). I call it the Old Fashioned Boot Maker:

    1.5 oz Bourbon
    1.5 oz Amaretto
    1 oz simple syrup
    1 oz lemon juice
    2-3 dashes bitters

Stirred or shaken, serve on the rocks.
Garnish with a cherry and/or orange slice.
It's a bit sweet, so cut down on the syrup if you like.

    1. I make my Old Fashions with homemade ginger simple syrup and Rye Whiskey. That is how I tone down the sweet.

  5. Impromptu stop by Pike and Pint on the way home from Itasca. Korean BBQ tacos have been ordered.

        1. I enjoyed it. Not amazing, but a better end to the franchise than fridges and monkeys

    1. It was good to see you and humbled you drove out of your way to see us!

In other news, Nibbish and I met for a round of golf yesterday after work and it turned into 27 holes of good times and good music! I stumbled onto a channel on my Sirius app called "Little Steven's Coolest Songs in the World" - it is actually a Pandora Station and boy, it was a great soundtrack to the evening.

      1. We were listening to Road Trip Radio (?) on Sirius on the way up - they were playing the top 66 road trip songs. Appropriately enough, "Little Red Corvette" came on just as were were approaching the 35 divide.

  6. Ranking our road trip experiences on a 5 star system, excluding fast food you can get anywhere

Orphanage Museum (Owatonna): TWO. A little light on content, but also free. Kids found some of it fascinating.
Olivia's Restaurant (Mankato): THREE. Solid diner. Also right next to a sex shop, which my boy found hilarious.
Spectator's Sports Bar (Altoona): ZERO. I almost never not eat the food I order at a restaurant. All four of us found our food to be hot garbage.
Living History Farms (Urbandale): FIVE. Kids had a blast. Really good history. Respectful land acknowledgment of the Ioway. Friendly staff. Cool historical town, including a real blacksmith.
Arabia Steamboat Museum (Kansas City): FOUR. The videos were a bit stale, but my daughter adored the artifacts room and couldn't stop talking about it.
Arthur Bryant's (Kansas City): ONE. Either I just don't like KC Barbecue or the place is overrated. Our ribs were were very chewy and hated all three sauce options. Threw half of it away.
Negro Leagues Museum (Kansas City): N/A There was a jazz festival going on and the nearest parking was seven blocks away and it was 95 degrees. Nope.
Pony Express Museum (St. Joseph): THREE. Pretty lifeless, but a few neat exhibits and the kids enjoyed themselves more than I thought. I learned some stuff.
Children's Museum (Omaha): FOUR. Definitely better than the one in St. Paul.
Twisted Fork (Omaha): FOUR. Pretty good food. Packed due to the World Series. We were some of the only people not wearing LSU or TCU gear.
Omaha Zoo (Omaha): FIVE. Spent five hours there, saw 25% of it. Desert was cool. Seal show was incredible. Penguins delighted the kids.
Horizon Family Restaurant (Sioux City): THREE. It's a diner. Waitress was great with the kids.
Marlin's Family Restaurant (Sioux Falls): THREE. It's a diner.
Falls Park (Sioux Falls): FOUR. Way cooler than I expected. Kids loved it
Butterfly Garden (Sioux Falls): THREE. Neat. Daughter pouted when she didn't catch as many.
Minneopa State Park (Mankato): FOUR. We got lucky and drove with the bison for twenty minutes, right next to our car. Perfect end to the vacation.

    1. Hope ours is as fun! I read the zoo commentary to Runner daughter, and she replied "I'M TELLIN' YA" so that resonated with her experience there

  7. Royce Lewis to the IL with a left oblique strain. Jose Miranda was scratched from the St. Paul lineup this evening and presumably will join the Twins.

    1. Color me excited. Miranda's last seven games:
      120/120/160.

      He's tearing it up....

  8. In his second start in St. Paul, Dallas Keuchel pitched 4.1 scoreless innings despite giving up four walks and three hits. He struck out three and threw 86 pitches, 47 of them strikes.
