  1. It was mentioned on the post game that Twins are 10-4 in extras this season; after a quick check, I noted that the Padres are 0-9, and had flashbacks to a couple seasons ago

I bought a set of all of thirty MLB mini-helmets and I’m going to build a standings board like this (except cooler, because my brother is a builder by trade and has a really sharp aesthetic). I’ve found my love of baseball at a fever pitch again after a half-decade of thinking my interest was waning, and I can’t wait to put this silly thing together.

      1. I did consider as much! So do I make an extra row at the bottom, or two to the right with the expectation of going to football’s ludicrous eight-division setup?

        1. I think it's more likely to go to eight divisions. I would prefer to instead copy NHL with two larger divisions.

    1. TS Flynn has a real cool setup where he has empty thread spindles painted for each team and stacks them in order

      1. Sounds cool, so I tried to look it up and was redirected to this very comment. At any rate, a more permanent solution than mine.

          1. It looks like the spools belong to @Go_GoSox, I only ever saw them when Flynn rt'd them I guess

      2. Many years ago we were in St. Louis visiting my bro and he took us to Ozzie's restaurant. In the lobby there were horizontal bat racks for each division with the bats for each team arranged in the order of the day's standings. I might try to replicate that some day.

  3. Aquinas' team has advanced to the championship game, which they'll be hosting as the #1 seed tonight. (Someone (not actually me!) read the bracket wrong, so Aquinas' team played a team that had beaten last week... it was another convincing win this time).

They'll be playing a team that they beat pretty soundly earlier this season. Unfortunately, this being the tournament, the coaches have been overly focused on winning, to the point where they brought up some of the more talented 6th graders to play with the 7th and 8th graders. Last game this resulted in just a single 7th grader playing (the other 3, and 1 8th grader each got a single at bat and/or pinch running assignment). Aquinas would be perfectly fine riding the bench if it were his 7th and 8th grade teammates playing, but it kind of stinks that it's the younger kids.

Still, it should be a fun game, and we're looking forward to it.

    1. The other team tied it up in the top of the 7th, and forced extra innings. But the Rabbits got a runner on in the bottom of the 8th, who moved to 3rd on a stolen base and a blown coverage on a bunt attempt, and then a fly ball past a short outfield delivered the win.

  4. If anybody wants a couple standing room tickets for tonight's game, let me know. Not sure I'll be up for it.

      1. It's been pretty much a 4 man race for best Twin's starter depending on what metrics you look at. If we make the playoffs and this is our staff, I think I go Gray, Lopez, Ryan and then Ober if it's a 4 man rotation. Maeda could earn himself a spot with a great finish, but he has a lot of relief experience and I could see him being the odd man out in order to have him in the bullpen.

        1. I would go Lopez, Ryan, Gray, then Ober. Gray is too prone to running his pitch count up too high, and I'm trying to get as many outs from the starters in the first couple of games.

        2. I suspect Ober might not be in the rotation that late. His previous high for innings was in 2021 at 108 ⅓ innings (16 in St. Paul and 92 ⅓ with the Twins). This year he's at 112 ⅓ across both levels. Add two more months and he'll probably top 150. The other part is Maeda is returning from surgery so his workload might also be monitored and limited.
