  1. Glendale snapped its losing streak, defeating the Salt River Rafters 5-4. Aaron Sabato was 2-for-3 with two home runs (his sixth and seventh) and a walk, raising his average to .222. Kala'i Rosario was 0-for-3 with a walk and a run. No Twins pitchers were used.

    1. dusting here, but what fell melted on the warm streets and sidewalks and instantly froze so its been a mess.

    1. I got the feeling he was ready to hang up the mic. While it'll be nice to get a fresh voice in the booth I'll miss Bremer. He has been the comfort blanket of the Twins my entire life

    2. Came to say same. I used to loathe Bremer but I grew up, he grew on me, and his enthusiasm for the Twins without being an unrealistic homer was palpable. I’m ready for new blood, but I’m glad I came around on him.

      1. He also got new partners in the booth.

Bremer has been the TV play-by-play guy for my entire life. He started the season before I was born. Next season will be weird.

        1. I started to like Bremer once Bert was replaced. I didn't mind the silliness of those two at first, but it got really old.

          1. You nailed it. Dazzle became so much more tolerable when paired with Provus, and same is true for Dick when Bert* left. And there are a whole lot worse out there, so Twins fans have been lucky in that regard.

btw, I still haven't read my copy of Bremer's book yet, but when I passed it to the local baseball card shop owner to browse, he commented that Bert's forward might have been better if it wasn't all about himself.

            1. Fully agree.

As far as a replacement, what I'd really like them to do is what they do sometimes in spring training--do a simulcast and have Cory and Dazzle on both radio and TV. I realize, though, that it's not likely to happen.

I also don't know, at this time, if I'll even be able to see the Twins on TV this year, so it may not matter much to me.

          2. I don't remember DicknBert being that silly, overall. The main problem I had as time went on is that Bert wanted us all to get off of his lawn, and I think it rubbed off on Dick.

Once he was partnered up with people who like baseball, or at least pretend to like baseball, he's been pretty nice to listen to.

            1. I was shocked and surprised by his multiple references to new-fangled stats like OPS during the season.

            2. This is exactly it. I'm on record on numerous occasions as saying Dick was an excellent pbp guy who just needed someone to keep him from falling into those bad habits. Morneau should be double elected into the Twins hall of fame for that.

    3. I saw a tweet of Bremer in a boat toasting to Twins fans on the occassion of his retirement.

The name of his boat was "Launch Angler."

    4. I don't think I'll be too sad about it because I either actively seek out alternative announcers or run the volume low while spinning records when I watch the Twins, but he's been part of the soundtrack to summer for as long as I can remember. It will be different.

      1. Count me weird, but I prefer radio over TV (regardless of the announcers) in most cases, and if radio and TV were synced I'd mute the TV and listen to Cory and Dazzle.

        1. I would do that, too, except the 4th through 6th innings. Dazzle's color commentary has improved considerably with Provus, but his play-by-play calling is still pretty terrible

    5. Hayes on the retirement:

A high-ranking team official confirmed health isn’t a factor in the decision; the Twins instead want a change in the booth. Other than a statement in the team’s press release, Bremer declined to comment.

      1. He teased reporters on air about dropped foul balls...

I know reporters sometimes try not to inject themselves in their stories, but I not sure about Hayes using the plural there.

        1. At least 40 years is a nice round number.

Part of me feels bad for him seemingly getting pushed out, but this way he gets to go out basically on top of his game. Sometimes people stick around a bit too long and it’s not good for their reputation.

    6. Early in the season, I'm thinking it was May, I was working a section in the main concourse near Gate 14. About an hour before game time I spotted Dick strolling down the concourse, nodding and saying hello to folks who greeted him, just sort of taking in the ballpark atmosphere on a sunny spring day. I don't know who they'll have doing play by play next year, but I hope Morneau becomes a fixture in the TV booth.

  2. Here's a fun one: last night the 4-year old alerted us to the fact that water was slowly dripping from the ceiling in our downstairs bathroom. We pulled the fan and some soaked drywall out to discover that, at some point, somebody decided to address a leaky upstairs toilet by stuffing 7 beach towels (now soaking wet) bunched up around the plumbing and bathroom fan in the ceiling. Plenty of mold and other assorted water damage to address now.

    1. It's not like there was a quarterback who's actually good who'd be available. Part of me said the Vikings should've had a better backup plan, but then I look at all the teams who have trouble finding one competent quarterback, and I can't too upset that the Vikings didn't have two.

  3. Heat update: it's back on. Seems the problem wasn't the flue from boiler to chimney, but the adjacent one from fireplace to chimney. We can definitely handle a winter without a working fireplace.
