We open up nibbish week with a blatant rip off of "Check Your Head" era Beastie Boys.
That's not an insult, "Check Your Head" era Beastie Boys were awesome, and so is this.

A week ago, I said that playing the Royals, Sox, and Clevelanders at 7-3 would be a disappointment. They lost that game, then infuriatingly lost two against Chicago. So...now 7-3 is the best they can hope for.
Luckily, Sonny Gray is on the mound today, and he doesn't believe on site things like occasionally giving up runs. Of course, with the way our non-Buxton offense has been going, there might be a surfeit of runs, in general. Let's hope for another 2-0 game in our favor.
This series marks the beginning of a very important stretch of games for the Twins. We're two games into a ten game stretch of games against our central division rivals where the only opponent with a winning record is....well, nobody. It's the Royals and the Clevelanders and the utterly terrible White Sox. Then things toughen up against the Padres and the surprisingly beatable Dodgers.
All the time, this is our time. 7 wins in these 10 games won't be enough. These are three of the four worst offense in baseball (the other, of course, is the Tigers). Allowing so much as a runner in scoring position against these teams is nearly unforgivable.
You hear that, Over? I want a perfect game today. A. PERFECT. GAME. Get it done.
Twenty games in the books. A full 1/8 of the season already done. How do the Twins look?
Well, they mostly look pretty good! The pitching has been excellent, led by a deep rotation and a pretty sharp high leverage bullpen. The Pablo Lopez trade has looked like a win/win, but the extension nudges it into the Twins' favor, I think. I loved the trade from the moment it was announced, and haven't seen anything to make me rethink it.
The hitting has been....less good, to be charitable. Gallo pretty much IS the offense at the moment. Getting Polanco back and sitting the next Denard Span Danny Santana squarely onto the bench will help, but a lot of the other pieces have to get moving. Jose Miranda has been slightly less valuable than Miguel Cabrera, which would be fantastic news....if it was 2012 - quite a bit less so in the year of our lord 2023.
Hosting the second worst team in baseball should help, but the non-Gallo contingent of the lineup is going to have to show up.
Luckily, one run is all they'll really need, because Pablo Lopez is in the mound, and he's going to be slinging zeroes all day. Let's go Twins!
Hey. Everyone. If the Twins win today, they'll win a series against the Yankees. In New York.
That hasn't happened in 243 years.
If they win the next two, they'll sweep a series against the Yankees in New York. Up until 1984, it was a felony to even type those words. That's what we call progress.
Also progress? Our damn starting rotation, am I right? In 84 innings worth of starts, our starting 6 have given up 23 runs (a 2.46 ERA. seems good) and have only allowed 75 baserunners. Fewer baserunners than innings. Also seems good!
The Twins are one of only four teams in baseball with 10+ wins, and they've won those games against Houston, Chicago, and New York. Optimism seems at least somewhat warranted.
Tyler Mahle takes the mound in an attempt to keep all these good things rolling today. I like his chances.
Go Twins!
Baseball is back. The winter was (err.....remains) long, but that doesn't matter now. Baseball is back.
And the Twins will probably be good! Buxton looks ready to go, we still, against all odds, have one of the best shortstops in baseball, and Jhoan Duran still throws a million miles per hour.
Today, it's Sonny Gray's turn to beat up on the Royals. I might actually be able to watch some of this one, so that will be a treat.
Go Twins!

Newbish says this was his favorite song of the year. It's probably top ten for me (I really wanted to do "Aquamarine" by Black Thought and Danger Mouse, but there's no live version of any of their stuff, it seems). I was a little surprised to see that nothing from the new bum had been played here -- the album itself is short, but it's mostly an all killer, no filler affair.
Everyone flocked to "Spitting Off the Edge of the World" and that one is great, but this song mixes that classic YYY propulsion with their newer complexity.
I don't honestly know which song this is. It's possible that no one does. It's possible that this is just a sound check. It's pretty sweet, though.
Wake up, everybody. New Taylor Swift dropped.
Not this one, though. This one is a rerelease of a song she did before. She's kind of grabbing a page out of World of Warcraft's playbook and just releasing all her old stuff over again for a variety of reasons.
This song is good, though. You're allowed to like this one.

New Trail of Dead came out this year. It's not my absolute favorite of theirs, but I'm contractually obligated to play you something from it
