Game 143 Recap: You thought I forgot again, didn’t you.

I didn't, but that doesn't change the outcome.

I'd go through the trouble of recaping this game, but nobody is paying attention anyway. Insead I'm going to turn to food. I've been trying to sneak more vegetables and less pork products [sadclown.jpg] into my diet lately. This recipe works well in that regard.

Black Bean and Corn Salsa (or burrito filling... or chip dip... or on top of shredded carnitas... mmmmmmmmmmm... pork.... D'oh).

You'll need one half cup of dried black beans (or one can if you're lazy), an ear or two of corn roasted on the cob (or a can if you're lazy), a red bell pepper, a poblano pepper, 3-4 good sized green onions (or one to two of the larger sweet bulb onions), part of (or the whole thing if you're not a wuss) jalapeno (or NM green chili which is in season right now !!1One!!!), a dash of lime juice, a hit of red chili powder, a healthy dose of cumin, and some freshly ground black pepper.

Soak the beans overnight, drain, rinse, and boil them to reconstitute. Once softened, drain and rinse the beans off in a bit of cool water. Combine all this stuff in a bowl and let it sit in the fridge for about 4 hours to marry. This stuff lasts about a week (give or take) covered in the fridge, is good on eggs, good in pie, good right out of the bowl, and makes for some quick burrito filling (with some additional peppers and onions and a little of that left over chicken) to take to the office.

culture club. Yeah, that's going to have to wait until I get done with this stupid commute. Friday I'll be going out to chicken wings and beer to celebrate never coming back to Baton Rouge ever again. I'm thinking about doing a monthly segment interviewing artists in MN for the front page, thoughts? BTW, you should all have clikced on the link Algonad provided in yesterday's cup.

Game 136: Twins 18, White Sux 9

This one was a laugher. I went to a friend's to lend him my DVDs of The Wire right around when the game started. I got out of the car with runners on 2nd & 3rd, one out, and Konerko at the plate. When I got back to the car, Mr. Provus said the Twins were "leading by 4." I assumed that Diamond had wriggled out of the jam in the first inning and the Twins had a nice couple of innings. Then he said it was the bottom of the second, and the Twins were up 7-3. I was a bit sad I missed the first offensive outburst in... I can't even remember how long. But I turned the game on at home. Thankfully I was witness to that glorious 5th inning. I can't describe how wonderful it was, so I'll let the box score do the talking:

1. Justin Morneau walks.
2. Ryan Doumit singles on a sharp line drive to right fielder Alex Rios. Justin Morneau to 3rd.
• Pitching Change: Leyson Septimo replaces Dylan Axelrod.
3. Chris Parmelee grounds out, third baseman Kevin Youkilis to first baseman Paul Konerko. Justin Morneau scores. Ryan Doumit to 2nd.
• Pitching Change: Philip Humber replaces Leyson Septimo.
4. Trevor Plouffe triples (1) on a line drive to right fielder Alex Rios. Ryan Doumit scores.
5. Eduardo Escobar singles on a line drive to right fielder Alex Rios. Trevor Plouffe scores.
6. Ben Revere singles on a ground ball to right fielder Alex Rios. Eduardo Escobar to 3rd.
7. Jamey Carroll out on a sacrifice fly to right fielder Alex Rios. Eduardo Escobar scores.
8. Joe Mauer walks. Ben Revere to 2nd.
• Coaching visit to mound.
9. Josh Willingham singles on a line drive to right fielder Alex Rios. Ben Revere scores. Joe Mauer to 3rd.
10. Justin Morneau walks. Josh Willingham to 2nd.
11. Ryan Doumit singles on a line drive to left fielder Dayan Viciedo. Joe Mauer scores. Josh Willingham scores. Justin Morneau to 2nd.
12. Chris Parmelee homers (5) on a fly ball to center field. Justin Morneau scores. Ryan Doumit scores.
13. Trevor Plouffe singles on a line drive to left fielder Dayan Viciedo.
• Pitching Change: Brian Omogrosso replaces Philip Humber.
14. Eduardo Escobar flies out to left fielder Dayan Viciedo.

I tuned out before Swampsludge gave up a bunch of runs, thankfully, so in my mind this game was even more one sided. That was fun.

Game what? The T___s played today?

I stopped listening to tonight's game loss after Diamond gave up the three run bomb so I could listen to Swans and finish my studies for the evening. I just got home, and my friend shared this link with me.

For those of you who don't want to just click a link sight unseen, this is Ken Rosenthal, obviously in the midst of a slow day, wondering if perhaps now that they freed up some salary the Red Sox might try to trade for Joe Mauer.

Instead of recounting the Twins' 16th loss in their last 19 games, let's laugh at what a moron Rosenthal is.

Game # Something Recap: Seriously, is this thing on?

Yeah, I've used this one before, so sue me.

Culture Club: Well, I can't really do the alternative spaces justice today, so I'll toss in this plug for Magnolia Editions. Known for unorthadox editons and tapestries, Magnolia has had a hand in creating some of the best prints in the market today. Doc, you should drop by and pick up a chuck close or two.

Game 122: Oakland 4, T___s 1

I went to bed early last night. I was awake long enough to hear Plouffe hit into a double play and the A's take the lead. I went to bed hoping I woke up to read about a thrilling late innings victory. No such luck. Given how three game series seem to go (win the first game, lose a close one in the second, get blown out in the last game) I'm not expecting a fun game this afternoon. I hope so, though.

Game 120: Twins 1, Mariners 5

Deduno finally picked up a big league loss by going 6 innings with 2 earned runs on 5 hits and 6 walks - the fifth of which pushed across the first Seattle run.

The Good: Glen Perkins pitched a scoreless 8th, striking out the side.

The Bad: The Twins managed 7 hits and took 5 walks in the game, but went 0-10 with RISP. Their lone run came on a Plouffe! sacrifice fly.

The Ugly: Ron Gardenhire - Jeff Gray came into the game in the bottom of the 7th with the Twins trailing by 1 run and Mountie, Donut and Plouffe! due up in the top of the 8th. He managed to give up 3 runs on 4 hits including a 2-run homerun and 2 doubles, walk a batter and essentially bury any chance the Twins had a making things interesting in the last two innings.

The Twins were swept in Seattle, have lost 5 in a row and 9 of their last 10 and currently sit 15 games behind the Chicago White Sox in the AL Central. They have the worst record it the American League and 4th worst in baseball. Only the Cubs, Rockies and Astros are in worse shape.
