Jazz players often have a rep for being real cool dudes. Dexter Gordon does nothing to dispel this reputation.

I have been in quite the jazz kind of mood as of late. I don't know if jobu will be able to keep up the next couple of days but I am going to be spinning some older cuts.

Belgium, 1958.
looks like the hitman might be a bit indisposed. perhaps he can write about it in the new column.
anyway, i saw this awhile back, and all the engineer talk yesterday made me think of it. on the spot at work, it's the first thing that popped into my head. the said engineers of the nation should enjoy brian cole's educating the crowd on the band's technical specifications.

(i believe bS played a different version of this awhile back, so we'll just call this a reprise)
happy belated 70th, robbie.

Come on guys, figure it out, for us.
i was shocked to find out that the chick from the wizard was jenny lewis. well, she done growns up.

i love that the women in the audience are swooning as much, if not more, than the guys.
I went out for a couple of cold ones with some pals on Friday night. We went to young, hip, ironic people bars. We thought "hey we're Dads now. Let's remember what it was like to be young". Well every stupid bar we walked into was playing the Rapture way louder than it should have been.

And yes, I understand that by playing the Rapture here and now I am no better than them.
all right, for this special occasion, i really wanted to play "darker with the day", the stunningly beautiful finale to nick cave and the bad seeds' equally beautiful 2001 release no more shall we part. alas, except for a couple of blurry coffeehouse troubadours, there were no live performances to be found (i do recommend clicking on the above link in its stead).
barring that, we'll go for the obvious, hackneyed choice (as bS already scooped the blondie cut).

happy rapture, everyone!
Jeff Buckley, De La Soul, and Blind Melon, have all taken turns with this School House Rock title before. Here is an English group, Embrace. I chose them because the video was live and of the highest quality.

I wonder if Jobu is going to play Marvelous 3 or 3 Days Grace tomorrow.
