Winter Wonderland: Games of October 20

PEORIA 6, SURPRISE 4 IN SURPRISE

Surprise overcame a 3-0 deficit to lead 4-3 after five, but three walks and two singles produced two Peoria runs in the sixth to put them in the lead to stay.  Nick Gordon was 1-for-5 for Surprise.  Mitch Garver was 0-for-5.  Tanner English was 0-for-4.

ARAGUA 5, ZULIA 3 IN ARAGUA

A two-run single by Teodoro Martinez in the fourth inning gave Aragua a 3-2 lead and they led the rest of the way.  Reynaldo Rodriguez was 1-for-4 with an RBI for Zulia.  Jairo Rodriguez was -for-3 with a walk for Aragua.  The starting pitchers were each ex-Twins:  Shairon Martis for Zulia, Yohan Pino for Aragua.

MARGARITA 3, LARA 1 IN LARA

Gabriel Noriega's two-run double in the seventh provided the margin of victory.  No Twins played.

CARACAS 9, MAGALLANES 8 IN CARACAS

Magallanes led 8-2, but Caracas scored seven in the bottom of the eighth to take the lead and the win.  Wilfredo Tovar was 3-for-5 with a double for Caracas, scoring once and driving in one.  His double in the eighth drove in the go-ahead run.  Luis Arraez was 1-for-4 with two runs for Magallanes.  Victor Tademo was used as a pinch-runner.

LA GUAIRA 15, ANZOATEGUI 4

It was tied 4-4 through seven, but La Guaira scored five in the eighth and six in the ninth.  Anzoategui used seven pitchers in the last two innings, six in the eighth.  Heiker Meneses was 2-for-4 with a walk, scoring once and driving in two, for La Guaira.  Niko Goodrum was 0-for-3 with a run for Anzoategui.

Winter Wonderland: Games of October 19

SURPRISE 2, SCOTTSDALE 1 IN SCOTTSDALE

Single runs in the fifth and sixth gave the Saguaros a 2-1 win.  Nick Gordon was 0-for-3 with a walk.  Randy Rosario struck out two in two shutout innings, giving up two hits.  John Curtiss pitched a scoreless inning, giving up one hit.

ZULIA 9, ARAGUA 2 IN ARAGUA

Zulia scored three in the second and three in the third to take a 6-2 lead.  Reynaldo Rodriguez was 0-for-5 for Zulia.

LARA 6, MARGARITA 5 IN LARA

Margarita scored five in the top of the eighth to go up 5-2, but Lara got four in the bottom of the eighth, three on a home run by Jesus Montero, to win.  Omar Bencomo started and pitched 6.1 innings for Margarita, giving up two runs on three hits and no walks with two strikeouts.  Ryan O'Rourke faced one man, gave up a double, and was charged with a run when the man later scored.

LA GUAIRA 4, CARACAS 0 IN LA GUAIRA

Jose Martinez homered in the fourth and La Guaira added three more in the seventh.  Wilfredo Tovar was 1-for-3 for Caracas.  Heiker Meneses was 0-for-3 for La Guaira.

ANZOATEGUI 11, MAGALLANES 3 IN ANZOATEGUI

A three-run third put Anzoategui ahead 5-2 and they never trailed.  Luis Arraez was 0-for-3 for Magallanes.  Niko Goodrum was 2-for-4 with a double, scoring once and driving in one, for Anzoategui.

SALT RIVER 4, SURPRISE 1 IN SURPRISE

Ryan McMahon's two-run triple capped a three-run seventh that broke a 1-1 tie and provided Salt River with its margin of victory.  Mitch Garver was 0-for-4 with an RBI.  Tanner English was 1-for-4.  Mason Melotakis pitched a perfect inning.

MAGALLANES 5, ANZOATEGUI 3 IN ANZOATEGUI

Magallanes took a 3-0 lead after five and never trailed, although Anzoategui twice cut the lead to one run.  Luis Arraez was 1-for-2 with two walks and an RBI for Magallanes.  Niko Goodrum was 0-for-5 for Anzoategui.

CARACAS 1, ARAGUA 0 IN CARACAS

Three consecutive singles brought home the game's only run in the sixth inning.  The last of those was by Wilfredo Tovar, who was 1-for-4 with an RBI for Caracas.

SURPRISE 3, SALT RIVER 1 IN SURPRISE

Nick Gordon's two-run double put the Saguaros ahead 2-0 in the third and they never trailed.  Gordon was 1-for-3 with a double and a walk, scoring once and driving in two.  Tanner English was 0-for-3.

LARA 6, ZULIA 0 IN ZULIA

A three-run fourth put Lara up 4-0 and they stayed in control of the game.  Reynaldo Rodriguez was 2-for-4 for Zulia.

Winter Wonderland: First Week

To my surprise, I learned today that the Venezuelan League started on October 6.  The Mexican League has started, too, but the Twins don't appear to have any players there.  Here are recaps of how the games have been going and how Twins players have been doing.  I'll try to do these recaps more-or-less daily, but I'm sure there will be days when I don't do one.
