It’s déjà vu all over again as the Twins kick off a six-game left coast road trip, this time as a battle of basement-dwellers. When last we witnessed our intrepid team taking on the Cherubim and Seraphim, it was the Twins home opener series. It was also the last series win for the Twins this year. So here’s to hoping that this time around the outcome is the same or even better. Because while we’ve been swept three times already, the Twins have yet to sweep a series against a competitor this year. Now, we all know the Twins have sucked badly since winning the division in 2010. But against the Angels in that timeframe they’ve fared fairly well with a 10-9 record. Mauer especially has done well against the Angels, batting .335 with eight doubles, seven home runs, 32 RBI and 25 walks in 50 career games against the Angels. We suck worse against some other teams is all I'm saying.

ON THE HILL

Nick Blackburn (0-2, 7.53 ERA, 4.48 FIP, 3.98 xFIP)

C.J. Wilson (2-2, 2.42 ERA, 3.33 FIP, 3.32 xFIP)

Play ball!

  1. Oops. I meant to edit this before it published but didn't get time. Two things: my BIL from Orange is watching Twins BP, and what's the deal with Pujols?

  2. As I already consider this a lost season, beating the Angels and Yankees count as moral victories.
I want Scioscia and Girardi* to pound sand.

    *peas in a pod?

  3. I've got a feeling that someone's homer-less streak ends tonight.

      1. It had less to do with the split and more to do with the "not blowing a game in dramatic walk-off fashion."

    1. The results for the first two batters were good, but he's been behind on everyone.

    1. After last year, it wouldn't take much to be a noticeable improvement. Carroll's numbers are right at average (-1 runs for Total Zone and 2 runs for BIS.) Surprisingly, Casilla has been even better, 1 for Total Zone and 6 for BIS.

  4. Thank you Howie Kendrick. Blackburn went to three balls on every batter in front of him, so he chases the first pitch and grounds out to end the inning.

    1. I remember when Kendrick was going to win multiple batting titles 'cause he hit everything so squarely. Good times.

  5. did you know: Joe Mauer cleared 4000 plate appearances over the weekend (4004). Looks like there have been 15 Twins with 4000+ career PA.

  6. I am so glad Gladden is getting the night off, and consequently, so are my ears. I like Provus, but I'm not sure if he's worth an extra inning Gladden's play-by-.

  7. Twins have not scored 0 or 4 runs in a game this year. They will have to keep both streaks alive to win this game. Also, they keep alive their streak of at least 4 runs allowed. I can't remember if that is 12 or 13 games now.

  8. Just got home and checking the box score. Looks like Blackie pitched a half-way decent game, which is all I ask of him. My bet with Spooky is off to a slow start, but still plenty of time to get 11 wins if he can throw like this consistently.

        1. Kind of like having Torii on your fantasy team tonight (or C.J. Wilson for that matter).

    1. That is a bold prediction considering I think Carroll has the longest active homerless streak.

  9. That sucks. Now we have to count at least one of Plouffe, Parmelee and Casilla getting on base to get back to the top of the order next inning.

      1. Looks like he tweaked his groin but he continued pitching. No doubt an undiagnosed injury that will lead to Tommy John surgery.

        1. Got ya, thanks. I am in LA, so I could probably go turn the game on TV but have been busy on the computer and just following gameday and wgom...

    1. This made me wonder how he is doing as a manager - so I looked it up and he has Harrisburg in 2nd place in the Western Division of the Eastern League (talk about an oxymoron).

  10. Wow, Span swung at a lot of crap there. Reminiscent of Cuddii with his "If I don't score these runs now, nobody will ever have a chance!" approach.
