2012 Game 51: Minnesota Twins at Cleveland Indians

Carl Pavano
v
Derek Lowe

Lowe shutout the Twins last time. Pavano was rumored to be quite jealous, as Lowe did it without a single strikeout. Lowe then did okay against Miami and followed that by giving up eight runs in 2.1 innings against the White Sox. He did strike out three that time though, giving him his highest K/9 for a game ever (probably).

However, that was then. Today, I expect dead grass leading to the infielders and tired outfielders as each pitcher continues to one-down the other with fewer strikeouts in the quest to pitch to impact.

  1. I've taken some steps to improve the quality of the picture of MLB.tv on my PS3. I tested it the other night late at night, but this will be the first time I've tried it during prime time. Wish me luck.

    Go Twins!

  2. So far, so good for my picture! Less good for the Twins, though they did get a couple balls up in the air. That's kinda a good sign.

  3. Pavano already has more strikeouts against the Indians than Lowe has against the Twins in 10 innings this season.

  4. Usually you plunk the batter, not the runner. Maybe it will discourage the Indians from stealing against Pavano as much.

    1. I assume that was the plan. Look out, though, when the Twins try to steal, they made end up taking one in the ribs.

  5. I bet it has been a long time since Pavano fell behind a batter 3-0 and then had him swing and miss on three pitches for the strikeout.

  6. And my picture is trying to freeze. This has to be MLB.tv's fault. I have no problem streaming Netflix.

  7. looks like the ball is carrying well when its hit in the air, but it could be the Tribe are swinging hard against Pavano.

  8. Well, I was hoping the Twins game could keep me from cleaning out the garage. Time to head to the garage, I suppose.

  9. Gardy seems to have modernized from his ever present warmup jacket to a hoodie.

  10. I don't get the thing that says you take more pitches when you're behind. I understand that you want baserunners, but that's what you want all the time, isn't it? If the pitcher is going to throw more strikes because he has a big lead, why not go up there ready to swing?

    1. with the pitch count, maybe one can build up enough pitches to get that dominating pitcher out in the 7th inning instead of getting CGSO.

I was just looking, Lowe has 79 pitches through 5. Granted, Lowe could probably easily throw 120 against the Twins.

      1. I get that, but wouldn't you want to do that all the time? Even if the score is tied or you're ahead, you're still trying to get the opposition starter out of the game, aren't you?

  11. Im surprised the Twins didnt try to trade for Derek Lowe. He seems like the ultimate Twins pitcher: fast worker, throw strikes, throws with sink.

  12. Johan Santana with a no-hitter through seven. I wish the Twins could ever get a pitcher like that.

  13. Heh. AJ just missed a pop up then pushed his pitcher when he picked it up before it went foul.

    1. Ah nevermind it was Hudson and they started yelling at each other in the dugout after the inning was over.

Imagine being on a team with AJ and O Dawg.

  14. It was annoying hearing Dick make excuses because Pavano is obviously injured when Baker/Slowey didn't get that benefit of the doubt ever.

  15. Is it really worth having Santana throw 130-140 pitches just to get a no-hitter? I get that no-hitters are special and all, but having him healthy for the rest of the season is kind of special, too.

  16. Don't maul the guy! Sheesh. Throws a bunch of pitches and then gets assaulted.

    1. If the Mets were going to get one, it was going to be one with a blown call and 5 walks.

Plus side: players on both sides of Johan Santana trade have thrown no-hitters this year. Minus side: neither for the #Twins

  18. Anyone else catch the fan that joined the scrum before being forcibly removed and tackled?
