An eight-run inning in Rochester.  An offensive explosion for Elizabethton.  Tim Shibuya makes a triumphant return to the rotation in Beloit.

ROCHESTER 12, CHARLOTTE 1 IN ROCHESTER

Batting starsDanny Valencia was 3-for-4 with two home runs, giving him four for the Red Wings.  He drove in three.  Ray Chang was 3-for-4 with a double.  Sean Burroughs was 3-for-5.

Pitching starSteven Hirschfeld gave up an unearned run on four hits and a walk in 6.2 innings.

Opposition stars:  Greg Golson and Ray Olmedo were each 2-for-4.

Key inning:  The sixth.  Leading 3-0, the Red Wings exploded for an eight-run inning.  They opened the inning with four singles, a double, a walk, two errors, and another walk, batting twelve in the inning and nine before anyone was retired.

NEW BRITAIN 6, RICHMOND 1 IN RICHMOND

Batting starsChris Colabello was 2-for-4 with a double and a home run, his eleventh.  Aaron Hicks was 1-for-3 with a walk and a home run, his seventh.  Nathan Hanson hit a home run, his second.

Pitching stars:  Starter Blake Martin struck out three in four shutout innings, allowing three hits and a walk.  Luis Perdomo struck out six in five innings of relief, giving up one run on a hit and a walk.

Opposition stars:  Gary Brown was 2-for-4 with a double.  Edwin Quirarte threw two shutout innings.

Key inning:  The first.  With runners on first and third and one out, Colabello and Evan Bigley hit back-to-back doubles to give the Rock Cats a 3-0 lead before the Flying Squirrels even came up to bat.

ST. LUCIE 10, FORT MYERS 3 IN ST. LUCIE

Batting starDaniel Ortiz was 3-for-4.

Pitching starMatthew Hauser struck out two in a perfect inning.

Opposition stars:  Travis Taijeron was 2-for-4 with a home run, driving in four.  Alonzo Harris was 2-for-3 with a double and two walks.  Cory Vaughn was 1-for-2 with three walks and scored three times.

Key inning:  The third.  In a scoreless tie, the Mets tallied six times on three singles, two walks, and a double.  They had three sacrifice flies in the inning, which probably ties a record (there was an error on one of them).

Other:  Miracle pitchers issued eight walks.

BELOIT 1, CEDAR RAPIDS 0 IN CEDAR RAPIDS

Batting starSteven Liddle was 3-for-4.

Pitching starsTim Shibuya lasted six shutout innings, giving up only one hit and one walk.  Clint Dempster struck out three in 2.2 scoreless innings, allowing three hits.

Opposition stars:  Frazier Hall was 2-for-4.  Austin Wood gave up one run on five hits and four walks in six innings.  Joe Melioris threw two shutout innings.

Key inning:  The third.  With one out, Tyler Grimes walked, took second on a ground out, and scored on a JaDamion Williams double for the only run of the game.

ELIZABETHTON 18, BURLINGTON 2 IN BURLINGTON

Batting starsTravis Harrison was 3-for-4 with a double and a walk.  Max Kepler was 3-for-5 with a triple and a walk, scoring three times.  Romy Jimenez was 2-for-5 with a triple and a home run, driving in three.

Pitching starsTaylor Rogers struck out seven and walked none in five shutout innings, giving up three hits.  Hein Robb allowed three hits in two shutout innings.

Opposition stars:  Chris Elder was 3-for-4.  Mark Threlkeld was 2-for-4 with a double.  Jossiel Martinez struck out three in 2.1 scoreless innings.

Key inning:  The third.  Already leading 4-0, the Twins scored six times.  Harrison and Michael Quesada hit back-to-back doubles with one out, followed by a Jimenez homer.  The rally continued when Candido Pimentel singled, Niko Goodrum tripled, Kepler was hit by a pitch, and Rory Rhodes singled.  The Twins batted ten in the inning.

GCL RED SOX 9, TWINS 1 AT TWINS

Batting starDereck Rodriguez was 0-for-1 with two walks and was hit by a pitch.

Pitching star:  Starter Austin Malinowski threw three hitless innings, walking two.

Opposition stars:  Jake Davies hit a home run.  Mario Alcantara gave up a run on two walks and no hits in four innings.  Ellis Jimenez struck out four, walked none, and gave up no hits in three innings.

Key inning:  The sixth.  With the Twins leading 1-0, the Red Sox used four singles, two walks, an error, and a wild pitch to score seven times.  All the runs were scored with two out.

Other:  The Twins had only one hit, a single by Jorge Fernandez leading off the eighth.

Pitching starJadison Jimenez  threw two shutout innings, allowing two hits and a walk.

Opposition stars:  Victor Velasquez was 3-for-5.  Vladimir Santana was 2-for-3 with a walk.  Andelson Fernandez worked three shutout innings.

Key inning:  The fifth.  The Twins had scored two in the fourth to cut the lead t0 4-2.  The White Sox stretched the lead back to three on a single, a ground out, a wild pitch, and another single.
