WGOM Fitness: October 13, 2012, Halfway Home

As of today, I'm a little more than halfway towards my goal of losing 85 pounds.

I haven't actually told anybody outside of this website what my actual goal is. I've generally told people 70 pounds and they look at me like I'm crazy. My wife told me yesterday that I am gaunt, that I've lost enough. Well, thanks, honey, but I'm still sporting a double chin and a still large belly. Now granted, I've made a lot of progress, but let's not confuse a lot of progress with where I should be. I'm not absolutely driven to get to a specific weight and as I get closer to my goal, I'll let my actual body fat percentage dictate where I should be, but let's not get crazy and say that I'm where I should be. I'm a lot closer to where I should be.

As I reported yesterday, I went to the gym in the morning. After work, I raked our entire yard and that netted 7 30-gallon bags of leaves. Last weekend, it was 300 gallons, so that's a decrease and my ash trees are done. I still have four trees that are stubbornly holding onto their leaves and as usual, that means I'll be doing leaves from now basically through the middle of November. We do them every week because we have a yard waste pickup and so we can dispose of the leaves every week. Plus, it's pretty good exercise.

Day 81

Total Loss: 43.3
% of body weight lost: 15.22

  1. I ran ING Hartford Half this morning. It was 33F while we were standing-around waiting to start. I brought along a headband, gloves, and a hoodie that I bought at Marshalls the night before (which was then donated to the pile of clothing they collect race morning for charity).

Once the sun cleared the horizon, it warmed up some, and as soon as I was a mile into it I was generating enough heat anyways. I had gone through a 12-week training program via Fleet Feet. A woman I had done many of their group runs ran with me at the same pace, so it was a nice way to burn through the miles being able to talk with someone, and also to keep pace with.

A well-run event (I heard there were 13,000 runners across the full, the half, and 5K). Probably another 30,000 fans/well wishers as well. Not a bad event to bring some dollars into the city.

NBBW and I made the mistake of not selecting a designated place to meet up after the race. An hour later...
