November 26, 2012: Welcome Back

The Milkmaid and Milklings came home from MN last night. My wife got a call very shortly after letting her know that the one person she sees at work every day (their offices connect) dropped dead at work yesterday after an aneurysm. Hug 'em if ya got 'em, folks.

  1. My stepgrandfather dropped dead from an aneurysm while performing a wedding ceremony. He had weeks of signs but hated doctors so wouldn't go. Hug 'em if you got 'em, and don't be a stubborn fool.

P.S. The couple still got married, but at a later date. They sent my grandma Christmas cards for years after.

    1. Apparently, this woman complained of some headaches, but only that day, as far as folks recall. She complained about other things a lot and was generally unpleasant at work, so I guess it was tough to know when to take her seriously.

      1. And now she just IMed me to say "Apparently she's not dead yet, but she's on life support and there is little hope." I wonder how this happens. The same thing happened to me when my sort-of girlfriend died in a car crash the day of my senior prom. I got word that she'd died in a crash, and for several hours I was in hell. Then it came out that she didn't die, but hope was dim. I, of course, took any opportunity for optimism. She died the next day so I was crushed again.

Amen. I'd been working at my first job out of law school for about six months when my supervisor dropped dead of a heart attack. He was thirty. He'd had signs, but didn't do anything about them.

      1. Amen again. You all probably recall it was only a couple of months ago that one of my best friends died from an aneurysm. When I worked in St. Paul several years ago our Director of Biz Dev died the same way. He was getting ready to go duck hunting and keeled over in his garage.

  2. J Mascis is on the latest WTFPod episode. I haven't really listened to Maron in awhile since I haven't cared about any of the guests, but this just jumped to the top of the queue.

  3. Did anyone else hear This American Life this weekend? Being from the kato-peterville area it was a fascinating listen. I knew most of the facts, but really didn't understand Sibley's total role in the conflict.

    1. Nope, but I got a link for the downloadable (rather than streaming) file, for those like me who don't do podcasty things.
      65 minutes it seems.

    2. If he's got a park named after him, he prolly killed a bunch of Indians (Sibley, Flandrau).
Now I'm wondering about the story of Mr. Minneopa.

    3. I started, but have not finished. I linked earlier to it and reminder to the STRIB's excellent series on Little Crow.

  4. Actual headline at 4ltr: "Jets superfan Fireman Ed hangs up helmet". Seems that Mr. Ed will still go to games, but he won't wear fireman's hat and won't lead cheers. Apparently, his support for Mark Sanchez caused friction among the Jets fans who think that Sanchez sux, so Mr. Ed has decided that he's not going to put up with such abuse. Therefore, he has retired. From wearing his helmet to games. Wonder if he gets a pension for that.

    1. this passes the 'Vikings fans are upset that Christian Ponder is dating' thing for the dumbest thing in the NFL this year.

    1. they play Florida St (got votes in both polls) Tuesday night and some chump school Saturday.

      1. I cant find it on YouTube, which seems silly. You would think you would want people sharing your ad with everyone.
