Sano goes deep twice!  A good day for Danny Santana.  It gets late early for the Red Wings.

LEHIGH VALLEY 9, ROCHESTER 2 IN LEHIGH VALLEY

Batting starsChris Herrmann was 1-for-3 with a walk.  Eric Fryer was 0-for-2 with two walks and scored once.

Pitching starsLuis Perdomo retired all five batters he faced, three by strikeout.  Tyler Robertson pitched a scoreless inning, giving up one hit.

Opposition stars:  Greg Smith pitched 5.2 scoreless innings, allowing four hits and no walks.  Cody Overbeck was 3-for-5 with a three-run homer, scoring twice.  Cody Asche was 2-for-5 with a double, a triple, and an RBI.

Key inning:  The first.  Pete Orr opened the game with a triple followed by a walk.  With one out, Darin Ruf hit an RBI single and Overbeck hit a three-run home run.  Josh Fields singled and stole second, scoring on a two-out single by Steven Lerud.  It was 5-0 after one inning.  The damage was done off Virgil Vasquez, who settled down to pitch three scoreless innings after that.

NEW BRITAIN 9, BINGHAMTON 3 IN NEW BRITAIN

Batting starsDanny Santana was 3-for-5 and scored once.  Dan Rohlfing was 2-for-3 with a walk and a double, scoring once and driving in two.  Josmil Pinto was 2-for-5 with a double, scoring once and driving in one.

Pitching starsTrevor May struck out six in five innings, giving up only two runs despite eight hits and five walks.  Blake Martin struck out two in two shutout innings, giving up two hits and two walks.

Opposition stars:  Josh Rodriguez was 3-for-4 with a walk, scoring once and driving in one.  Allan Dykstra was 2-for-3 with a double and two walks.

Key inning:  The fifth.  Leading 3-2, the Rock Cats put together a two-out rally.  A walk, a double by Pinto, and an intentional walk loaded the bases.  Two runs were walked in, followed by a two-run double by Rohlfing.  Four runs scored in the inning, making the score 7-2.

FORT MYERS 5, LAKELAND 3 IN LAKELAND (GAME 1--SCHEDULED 7 INNINGS)

Batting starsMiguel Sano was 2-for-3 with a walk, a double, and a home run (his twelfth), scoring twice.  Aderlin Mejia was 2-for-4 with an RBI.  Jairo Rodriguez was 2-for-4 with an RBI.

Pitching starsMatt Hauser pitched two shutout innings, giving up a hit and a walk.  Corey Williams pitched a shutout inning, giving up one hit.

Opposition stars:  Jeff McVaney was 2-for-3 with a run and an RBI.  Aaron Westlake was 2-for-3 with a run.  Will Clinard pitched two shutout innings, allowing one hit.

Key inning:  The fifth.  The Flying Tigers had scored three in the fourth to cut the lead to 4-3.  Sano led off the inning with a walk, stole second, and scored on an RBI single by Rodriguez to provide a needed insurance run.

LAKELAND 3, FORT MYERS 2 IN LAKELAND (GAME 2--SCHEDULED 7 INNINGS)

Batting starsMiguel Sano was 1-for-3 with a home run, his thirteenth.  Angel Morales was 1-for-2 with a home run, his third.

Pitching starsCole Johnson struck out three in three shutout innings, giving up four hits and one walk.

Opposition stars:  Kyle Ryan pitched 6.2 innings, allowing two runs on four hits and two walks.  Mike Hernandez was 2-for-3 with two doubles and scored once.  Jeff McVaney was 2-for-4 with a two-run homer.

Key inning:  The first.  Sano homered in the top of the inning to give the Miracle the early lead, but it was short-lived.  With one out, Tyler Hanover singled and McVaney hit a two-run homer.  With two out, Hernandez and Jason Krizan hit back-to-back doubles to make the score 3-1.

  1. With two strikeouts yesterday, Sano's K% is at 24.3%. That would be tied for 36th in MLB. His walk rate is 12.2%, tying him for 26th in MLB (Mauer is 28th). Oh, and his ISO is .353, .002 above the current leader Chris Davis. It will be awesome to watch him on the Twins.
