ROCHESTER 4, GWINNETT 3 IN GWINNETT

Batting starsDoug Bernier was 2-for-3 with a walk and scored twice.  Eric Fryer was 2-for-4 with a double and scored three times.  Antoan Richardson was 2-for-5.

Pitching starsKyle Gibson pitched six innings, giving up two runs on seven hits and two walks while striking out four.  Aaron Thompson struck out two in 2.1 scoreless innings, giving up a hit and a walk.

Opposition stars:  Jose Constanza was 3-for-4 with a walk and a run.  Wirfin Obispo struck out two in two shuout innings, allowing one hit.

Key inning:  The sixth.  The Red Wings led 1-0.  Jeff Clement led off with a single.  With one out, Eric Farris doubled and an intentional walk to Bernier loaded the bases.  Fryer then hit a bases-clearing double to make it 4-0.  They needed all those runs, as the Braves came back to score two in the sixth and one in the seventh, but did not get the tying run past first base.

NEW BRITAIN 4, RICHMOND 1 IN RICHMOND

Batting starsDanny Santana was 3-for-5 and scored once.  Josmil Pinto was 1-for-3 with a walk and an RBI.

Pitching starsD. J. Baxendale struck out seven in seven innings, giving up one run on three hits and two walks.  Matt Hauser pitched a perfect inning.

Opposition stars:  Ryan Lollis was 2-for-3 with two doubles.  Scott Shuman struck out three in two perfect inning.

Key inning:  The first.  Santana and James Beresford opened the game with back-to-back singles and an error loaded the bases with none out.  A pair of RBI infield outs made it 2-0.  The Rock Cats scored two more in the second and that was all they would need.

BREVARD COUNTY 3, FORT MYERS 2 IN FORT MYERS

Batting starsMatt Koch was 2-for-4.  Miguel Sano was 1-for-4 with a walk and a home run (his fourteenth), scoring twice.

Pitching starsRyan O'Rourke pitched two shutout innings, giving up one hit.  Zach Jones struck out one in a perfect inning.

Opposition stars:  Jed Bradley pitched six innings, allowing one run on three hits and two walks.  Chadwin Stang was 2-for-3 with a walk.

Key inning:  The sixth.  Leading 2-0, Cameron Garfield hit a one-out homer for the Manatees.  They needed it, because the Miracle scored once in the sixth and once in the eighth to cut the lead to 3-2, but could not tie the score.  All three Brevard County runs came off Jason Wheeler, who gave up nine hits and a walk while striking out six.

DSL DIAMONDBACKS 8, DSL TWINS 4 AT DSL DIAMONDBACKS

Batting starsDubal Baez was 2-for-4 with an RBI.  Rafael P. Valera was 1-for-2 with two walks and scored twice.

Pitching starJose Ramirez struck out three in four shutout innings of relief, giving up no hits and one walk.

Opposition stars:  Yefrey Ramirez struck out four in 4.1 scoreless innings of relief, allowing one hit and no walks.  Henry Castillo was 2-for-3 with a run and an RBI.  Frankies Alcantara was 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI.

Key inning:  The eighth.  The Twins trailed 4-3.  Valera led off with a walk, followed by singles by Eddy Concepcion and Francis Mateo.  A double play then brought in a run to tie the game.  In the bottom of the inning, Raul Santana double, Oswaldo Garcia singled him to third, and a bunt by Yeisson Rosario loaded the bases.  Ronny Mejias hit a bases-clearing triple to give the Diamondbacks the lead.  Mejias then scored on an Alcantara single to make the score 8-4.  The runs scored off Sebastian Perez, who gave up four runs on five hits in 1.1 innings.
