Mexican Matchups: Games of 11/9

Gracious hosts in all four games.  Navojoa plays Twins Baseball in the worst way.  If you hit two home runs, have you committed Burgamy?

OBREGON 4, NAVOJOA 3 IN NAVOJOA

Obregon:  Steve Hammond struck out seven in six innings, giving up three runs (two earned) on seven hits and one walk.

Navojoa:  Luis Fonseca was 2-for-3 with a walk and an RBI.  Jose Chavez was 2-for-4 with a walk and a run.  Wes Bankston was 2-for-4.

The game:  Obregon got four in the second, two on a single by Daniel Castro, to take a 4-1 lead.  Navojoa scored single runs in the third and fifth, but that was it.  Navojoa had the bases loaded with none out in the eighth and had the tying run on third with two out in the ninth.

LOS MOCHIS 8, GUASAVE 4 IN GUASAVE

Los Mochis:  Brian Burgamy was 3-for-4 with two home runs (his sixth and seventh), scoring twice and driving in three.  Ramon Orantes was 2-for-4 with two home runs, his second and third.  Jamie Johnson (Detroit) was 2-for-3 with two walks and a double, scoring once.

Guasave:  Zelous Wheeler was 3-for-4 with a walk and two doubles, scoring once and driving in one.  Leonardo Heras was 2-for-4 with a walk and a run.  Sergio Mora pitched four innings of relief, allowing one run on three hits and two walks with three strikeouts.

The game:  Los Mochis scored three in the second, two of them on a single by Juan Carlos Gamboa (Mets), to take a 4-0 lead.  They led 6-0 before Guasave got on the board with two in the sixth.  Guasave was never closer than four runs.

MAZATLAN 12, HERMOSILLO 3 IN HERMOSILLO

Mazatlan:  Issmael Salas was 3-for-4 with a run and four RBIs.  Oswaldo Morejon was 2-for-4 with a walk and a double, scoring three times and driving in one.  Mauricio Lara pitched six innings, giving up one run on one hit and one walk with five strikeouts.

Hermosillo:  Edgar Quintero was 2-for-2 with a home run.  Hector Galvan pitched 2.2 scoreless innings, allowing two hits and one walk with one strikeout.

The game:  Mazatlan scored two in the first and three in the third to take a 5-1 lead and then scored seven in the fourth to put it away early.  Salas and Erick Rodriguez each contributed a two-run single in the inning.

MEXICALI 14, CULIACAN 3 IN CULIACAN

Mexicali:  Russell Branyan was 3-for-5 with a walk and two home runs, scoring three times and driving in five.  Ben Guez (Detroit) was 3-for-5 with a home run, scoring three times and driving in two.  Javier Solano struck out six in six shutout innings, giving up two hits and no walks.

Culiacan:  Maxwell Leon was 1-for-3 with a home run, his third.

The game:  Mexicali scored five in the fifth to take a 7-0 lead.  Branyan hit a three-run homer in the inning.
