Dominican Digest: Games of 11/23

Danny Santana leads Aguilas to victory.  A good day for Jorge Polanco.  Este only got hits in one inning, but it was enough.

ESTE 3, LICEY 2 IN ESTE

TwinsChris Colabello (Este) was 0-for-2.  Dan Rohlfing (Licey) was 1-for-2 with a walk.

Licey:  Anderson Hernandez was 1-for-3 with a triple and an RBI.  Ramon Ortiz (Toronto) pitched five shutout innings, giving up no hits and two walks with two strikeouts.

Este:  Pedro Feliz was 1-for-3 with a run and an RBI.  Chris Leroux struck out five in four shutout innings, allowing one hit and no walks.

The game:  It was scoreless through six.  Este got all three of its runs and both of its hits in the seventh inning.  Jim Adduci (Texas) singled and was bunted to second.  Following an intentional walk, Feliz came through with a single-and-error, scoring both runners and leaving Feliz on third, from where he scored on a sacrifice fly.  Licey got both of its runs in the ninth and had a man on first with two out.

AGUILAS 7, ORIENTE 3 IN AGUILAS

TwinsDanny Santana (Aguilas) was 3-for-5 with a triple, scoring twice and driving in two.

Oriente:  Junior Lake (Cubs) was 2-for-4 with an RBI.  Ed Rogers was 2-for-4.

Aguilas:  Dan Black (White Sox) was 3-for-5 with a double and three RBIs.  Rafael Ynoa (Colorado) was 3-for-4 with a double and two runs.  Lorenzo Barcelo pitched six innings, allowing two runs on five hits and no walks with four strikeouts.

The game:  Leandro Castro doubled and scored to give Oriente a 2-1 lead in the top of the fifth.  In the bottom of the fifth, a Ynoa double, a Santana triple, and a wild pitch made it 3-2 Aguilas.  In the sixth, Black singled in two of the four Aguilas runs to increase the lead to 7-2.

CIBAO 8, ESCOGIDO 2 IN ESCOGIDO

Twins:  Jorge Polanco (Escogido) was 2-for-3 with a walk.

Cibao:  Carlos Paulino (Pittsburgh) was 3-for-4 with a double, scoring twice and driving in one.  Marcell Ozuna (Miami) was 3-for-5.  Francisco Pegueroa (San Francisco) was 2-for-4 with two runs.

Escogido:  Erick Almonte was 2-for-3 with a walk and a double, driving in one.  Carlos Pimentel (Cubs) pitched five innings, allowing one run on two hits and one walk with three strikeouts.

The game:  Doubles by Freddy Guzman, Gregory Polanco (Pittsburgh), and Almonte gave Escogido a 2-0 lead in the first.  It held up for five innings, but in the sixth, a single, a double, and a pair of productive outs tied the score.  Cibao took control in the seventh, scoring four times.  Two runs scored on an error, one on a ground-rule double by Paulino, and one on a sacrifice fly.  Two more Cibao runs in the eight put the game away.
