Puerto Rican League: Games of 11/26

A good outing for Josue Montanez.  A grand slam settles things in Mayaguez.  Free baseball in Ponce.

SANTURCE 7, MAYAGUEZ 1 IN MAYAGUEZ

Twins:  Eddie Rosario (Mayaguez) was 0-for-4.  Daniel Ortiz (Mayaguez) was 0-for-2.

Santurce:  Edwin Maysonet was 2-for-4 with a double and a grand slam, scoring twice.  Jonathan Singleton (Houston) was 1-for-3 with a walk and a home run (his third), scoring twice.  James Houser pitched 5.1 innings, giving up one run on seven hits and one walk with two strikeouts.

Mayaguez:  Randy Ruiz was 3-for-4 with a double and a run.  Michael Taylor (Washington) was 2-for-4.

The game:  Santurce scored single runs in the first and second to take a 2-0 lead.  Mayaguez got one in the bottom of the second, but had the bases loaded with one out and failed to score.  In the sixth, a walk, a single, and a hit batsman preceded a grand slam by Maysonet that put Santurce ahead 6-1.  Mayaguez never threatened to get back into the game.

PONCE 5, CAROLINA 4 IN PONCE (12 INNINGS)

Twins:  Josue Montanez (Ponce) pitched two shutout innings, giving up no hits and one walk with one strikeout.

Carolina:  Luis Matos was 2-for-2 with an RBI.  Jesus Feliciano was 2-for-5 with a run.  David Kopp struck out five in three shutout innings, giving up one hit and no walks.

Ponce:  Jose Ruiz was 3-for-5 with two home runs (his second and third), driving in three.  Jordan Lennerton (Detroit) was 2-for-5 with a walk and a double, scoring once and driving in one.  Adalberto Flores pitched 2.1 scoreless innings, allowing two hits and no walks with one strikeout.

The game:  Ruiz hit a two-run homer to cap a three-run second and give Ponce a 3-0 lead.  Ruiz hit another homer in the fourth to make it 4-0.  It stayed there until the seventh, when Carolina scored four runs on one hit.  A walk, a single, and another walk loaded the bases.  That was followed by a pair of run-scoring walks and a pair of sacrifice flies.  It stayed tied at four until the twelfth, when Reymond Fuentes (San Diego) singled, went to second on a bunt, and scored on a Lennerton single.
