  1. Today's our 4th monthly singing at one of the local nursing home, and the three of us have added to our repertoire:
    - Ramblin' Man
    - Morning Has Broken
    - Help! (I love the counterpoint on the verses)
    - Bad Moon Rising

Not ready for prime time (yet): Help Me Rhonda, You've Lost That Lovin' Feeling, We Can Work It Out, Runaway

  2. Spooky: Just got my utility bill, and it's $66.66. Is it safe for me to pay it?

  3. Oswaldo Arcia has 11 hits, 6 are for extra bases (3 doubles, 1 triple, 2 home runs)

  4. I'm listening to Gleeman's appearance on PA's show from earlier in the week (I have some time to kill). They are talking sabermetrics, nothing real groundbreaking.

My take home is this: I used to listen to PA and Dubay regularly in college, have heard very little of it in the last 10+ years. The schtick is exactly the same as it was 10 years ago. I'll maybe check back in another 10 years.

    1. PA and Dubay together had something. Separately, their flaws really come out. Definitely a case of the whole being greater than the sum of the parts.

      1. I agree. And I cannot stand the way PA interrupts all the time when someone else is talking.

  5. Basketball last night: what a disgusting performance by Indiana last night. They flat out quit. Add in Stephenson's nonsense and it was good riddance.

    1. The hockey game was the opposite. I know in Minnesota you're not really suppose to say this but man I admire that Blackhawks team. Super skilled, but not a bunch of nancy boys. Gritty, steely-eyed. They. never. give. up.

      1. Agreed.
I should be watching more of the NBA playoffs, but the Stanley Cup playoffs has been top notch from the beginning.

      2. I'm just not a hockey guy. I can appreciate that others enjoy it, it's just not my thing.

Paul George had 29 points last night -- 28 of them coming in garbage time. That was the least impactful 28 point half I have ever seen. Make no mistake, the entire second half was garbage time. He was pretty terrific in game 5, but in game 6, when the game was being decided, he was totally invisible.

On the other hand, LeBron completely controlled the first half. He took the game to Indiana. He scored repeatedly right at the rim, or he dished to guys for wide open shots.

The Finals have the potential to be really interesting. No matter who wins the West (SAS), they will be playing Miami in the Finals for the second time. Last year's Finals were so good that I really hope it is SAS. I kind of expect the thing to come down right to the last minute of game 7.

        1. I did not know this, and maybe I'm the only one who cares anyway, but SAS shoes are actually made in San Antonio. SAS stands for San Antonio Shoemakers.

        2. I really don't know what Larry Bird can or should do. I actually felt sorry for Frank Vogel. It seemed as though there was nothing he could do to shake his guys' funk in this series. You'd think any club with David West would have enough heart to compete, but Indy just didn't in this series.

Roy Hibbert is a head case. Lance Stephenson competes, but needs to grow up. Paul George, talent up the wazoo, but will need to develop some more ruthlessness as a leader. George Hill is a nice enough complementary player, but the bench is awful. I don't know whether Danny Granger would/could have made a difference, but the trade for Evan Turner turned out as I expected -- a dud.

      3. After the kings went ahead in the third I thought the 'hawks were finished, but, oh mama, what a comeback.

  6. NBB Ornithology Report:
    Baltimore Oriole
    Mute Swans
    Goldeneyes
    Red-faced Buzzard
    Peregrine Falcon
    Red-tailed hawk w/ white coloration

  7. If Frank Vogel is fired from Indy, do you want the Wolves to pick him as their next coach?

        1. I was just going off of what everyone at work was teasing me about yesterday. I wasn't aware his interview was before Joerger's, so that makes me feel at least a little better.

      1. I can't imagine a field more intimately related to human happiness!!!111one111!!!!

    1. That was a very interesting article. I liked the jab at budmillercoors wrt to the application of the science. Thanks for the link.

  8. It looks like the NBA is going to come out of this Sterling fiasco smelling like a rose. They replaced one of the most despicable owners in all of sports with a high energy marketing guy with extremely deep pockets who wants to make the Clippers a winner. With the premier franchise in the league occupying the same building, their four annual meetings will be big-time rivalry games. The league just got another top-level franchise. And, since his wife knee-capped Sterling, they don't have to fight him through the mud.

Meanwhile, the NFL is arguing that the Redskins name is "not a slur." They are basing that argument, in part, on the fact that they've been using that name for 80 years. Yeah, because 80 years ago, there were no racial slurs being thrown around in this country.

    1. The N.F.L.really needs to face reality on this one. Eventually they are going to change the name. Why not embrace the change and get some good publicity? The way they're going, they won't get any credit when they finally do change, because they've made it so clear that they had to be dragged to it kicking and screaming.

  9. 7 shutout innings tonight for Trevor May, his fourth straight start without allowing an earned run (1 unearned run total in those four starts).

    1. Geez, it's too bad there's no spots in the starting rotation open for a guy like that...

      1. Just because I was curious:

Jeter through age 30 season: 315/370/463 WAR of 41.8
Mauer currently (he turns 31 this year): 321/403/464 WAR of 44

Mauer sucks. Jeter is a leader and a consummate pro.
