Minor Details: Games of April 30

Eddie Rosario leads the Red Wings.  Alex Wimmers struggles for the Lookouts.  When it comes to ranking Miracle pitchers, Hu's on first.  The gopher ball hurts John Curtiss in his first start off the disabled list.

ROCHESTER 8, COLUMBUS 4 IN ROCHESTER

Batting stars:  Eddie Rosario was 3-for-5 with a run and two RBIs.  Reynaldo Rodriguez was 2-for-4 with a double and a walk, driving in one.  Eric Fryer was 2-for-4 with a walk, scoring once and driving in one.

Pitching stars:  Mark Hamburger struck out six in six innings, giving up three runs (two earned) on five hits and three walks.  Ryan O'Rourke pitched a scoreless inning, giving up one walk with one strikeout.

Opposition stars:  James Ramsey was 1-for-4 with a double and a walk, scoring once and driving in one.  Zach Walters was 2-for-4 with a walk and an RBI.

The game:  Rosario singled in a run in the fourth to give the Red Wings a 4-3 lead.  In the fifth, RBI singles by Argenis DiazEric Farris, and Rosario and a run-scoring double by Rodriguez made it 8-3 and put the Red Wings in control of the game.

Of note:  Aaron Hicks was 3-for-5 with a run.  Danny Ortiz was 0-for-5.

JACKSONVILLE 6, CHATTANOOGA 4 IN CHATTANOOGA

Batting stars:  Byron Buxton was 2-for-4 with a triple and a walk, driving in one.  Miguel Sano was 1-for-3 with a home run (his fourth) and a walk.  Stuart Turner was 1-for-2 with a walk, scoring once and driving in one.

Pitching stars:  D. J. Johnson struck out two in 1.1 scoreless innings, giving up a walk.  Dallas Gallant pitched a perfect inning.

Opposition stars:  Zack Cox was 3-for-4 with a double, scoring twice and driving in one.  Austin Nola was 1-for-1 with a double and two walks, scoring once and driving in two.  Austin Brice struck out six in four innings, allowing one run on four hits and two walks.

The game:  It was 1-1 through five.  Each team scored three times in the sixth to leave it 4-4.  RBI singles by Ryan Rieger and Sharif Othman put the Suns ahead 6-4.  The Lookouts did not get a hit after the sixth inning.

Of note:  Jorge Polanco was 1-for-5 with an RBI.  Dalton Hicks was 0-for-5.  Adam Brett Walker II was 0-for-4.  Alex Wimmers pitched 5.2 innings, giving up four runs on eight hits and two walks with four strikeouts.

FORT MYERS 5, CHARLOTTE 3 IN FORT MYERS

Batting stars:  Niko Goodrum was 1-for-4 with a two-run homer (his third) and a walk.  Aderlin Mejia was 1-for-2 with two walks, scoring once and driving in one.  Chad Christensen was 3-for-3 with a double.

Pitching stars:  Chih-Wei Hu struck out eight in six innings, giving up two runs (one earned) on four hits and two walks.  Todd Van Steensel struck out four in two shutout innings, giving up two hits.

Opposition stars:  Kean Wong was 2-for-4 with a walk and two RBIs.  Mike Marjama was 2-for-4 with a run.

The game:  Goodrum's two-run homer in the third broke a 1-1 tie, and another run later in the inning made it 4-1 after three.  The Stone Crabs got three singles in the fifth to cut the lead to 4-2 but never got closer than that.  They did put the tying run on second with two out in the ninth, but a strikeout ended the game.

Of note:  Engelb Vielma was 1-for-3 with a walk and a run.  Mitch Garver was 0-for-1 with two walks and an RBI.  Alex Swim was 1-for-4 with a run.

QUAD CITIES 4, CEDAR RAPIDS 2 IN QUAD CITIES

Batting stars:  Max Murphy was 1-for-3 with a double and a walk.  Brett Doe was 1-for-3 with a double and a run.

Pitching star:  Zach Tillery struck out two in two shutout innings, giving up one hit.

Opposition stars:  Derek Fisher was 1-for-3 with a two-run homer (his fifth) and a walk.  Jacob Nottingham was 2-for-4 with a home run, his fourth).  Joshua James struck out five in four shutout innings of relief, giving up one hit.

The game:  The Nottingham and Fisher homers left the River Bandits ahead 3-0 after three.  Aided by two errors, the Kernels closed to 3-2 in the top of the fifth.  Three walks led to a River Bandit run in the bottom of the fifth to make it 4-2, and there it stayed.  The Kernels got a leadoff single in the sixth but did not get another hit the rest of the game.

Of note:  Zach Granite was 1-for-4 with a double and a run.  Nick Gordon was 0-for-3 with a walk and an RBI.  Zack Larson was 0-for-3 with a walk.  Trey Vavra was 0-for-4.  John Curtiss, in his first start since going on the disabled list, struck out four in four innings, giving up three runs on six hits and no walks.
