Players of the Week

Our weekly honors, a few days late.

ROCHESTER

Batter:  Reynaldo Rodriguez was 10-for-26 with three doubles, a triple, two home runs, and a stolen base.  For the season he is hitting .265/.310/.454 in 388 at-bats.

Pitcher:  Pat Dean pitched two complete games, pitching seventeen innings.  He gave up two runs on thirteen hits and four walks with eleven strikeouts.  For the season he is 8-9, 2.92, 1.20 WHIP with 31 walks and 82 strikeouts in 135.2 innings (21 starts).

CHATTANOOGA

Batter:  Shannon Wilkerson was 11-for-23 with three doubles, two walks, and two stolen bases.  For the season he is hitting .324/.383/.378 and is 4-for-5 in stolen bases in 74 at-bats.

Pitcher:  Jason Wheeler made one start, pitching eight innings.  He gave up no runs on five hits and no walks with six strikeouts.  For the season he is 2-2, 3.38, 1.21 WHIP with 6 walks and 33 strikeouts in 37.1 innings (6 starts).

FORT MYERS

Batter:  Nobody, really.  We'll give it to Zach Granite, who was 6-for-23 with a triple, two walks, and three stolen bases.  For the season he is hitting .252/.326/.301 and is 15-for-23 in stolen bases in 306 at-bats.

Pitcher:  Ryan Eades made two starts, pitching eleven innings.  He gave up two runs on eight hits and six walks with six strikeouts.  For the season he is 6-3, 3.24, 1.24 WHIP with 32 walks and 74 strikeouts in 108.1 innings (18 starts).

CEDAR RAPIDS

Batter:  Brett Doe was 7-for-21 with a double and a walk.  For the season he is hitting .289/.337/.389 in 190 at-bats.

Pitcher:  Sam Gibbons made one start, pitching nine innings.  He gave up no runs on four hits and one walk with nine strikeouts.  For the season he is 5-2, 3.14, 1.24 WHIP with 17 walks and 41 strikeouts in 57.1 innings (10 starts).

ELIZABETHTON

Batter:  Jermaine Palacios was just promoted from the GCL Twins, but is off to a good start.  He was 7-for-14 with a double and two home runs.  This means his season numbers are .500/.467/1.000 in 14 at-bats.

Pitcher:  Andro Cutura made one start, pitching seven innings.  He gave up one run on five hits and one walk with five strikeouts.  For the season he is 2-1, 1.03, 0.83 WHIP with 8 walks and 27 strikeouts in 35 innings (6 starts).

GCL TWINS

Batter:  Luis Arraez was 7-for-18 with a double, two walks, and two stolen bases.  For the season he is hitting .312/.377/.385 and is 5-for-11 in stolen bases in 109 at-bats.

Pitcher:  Jose Martinez made two starts, pitching seven innings.  He gave up no runs on four hits and three walks with five strikeouts.  For the season he is 1-3, 3.00, 1.23 WHIP with 10 walks and 17 strikeouts in 30 innings (7 starts).

DSL TWINS

Batter:  Yeltsin Encarnacion was 7-for-19 with five walks.  For the season he is hitting .271/.386/.306 in 85 at-bats.

Pitcher:  Juan Herrera made one start, pitching six innings.  He gave up one run on four hits and no walks with seven strikeouts.  For the season he is 3-1, 3.25, 1.05 WHIP with 19 walks (and 10 hit batsmen) and 46 strikeouts in 55.1 innings (10 starts, 1 relief appearance).

  1. Padre...wondering how much more work it would be for you to include each club's results for the week so there's some additional context for these guys. "Nobody, really." suggests that Ft. Myers had a bad week (if only at the plate), but they actually managed to go 4-2.

    Not a huge deal either way - Lord knows you provide us with enough MiLB content (all the scores and recaps anyway) - but I find it fun to follow the prospects here that I wouldn't otherwise hear about.

    1. Not that much trouble. I hope to get back to doing the weekly "Where They Stand", too. It just seems like this whole summer has been incredibly busy.
