Minor Details: September 4

Pat Dean shines for the Red Wings.  D. J. Hicks and David Hurlbut lead the Lookouts.  An excellent game for Stephen Gonsalves.  Sam Gibbons pitches well for Cedar Rapids.  Yes, we're way behind, but we're going to finish them anyway, just because.

ROCHESTER 2, PAWTUCKET 1 IN PAWTUCKET

Batting stars:  Allan de San Miguel, who's back in the Twins' organization, was 2-for-3 with a double.  Oswaldo Arcia was 1-for-3 with a double and an RBI.

Pitching star:  Pat Dean pitched a complete game, giving up one run on five hits and no walks with one strikeout.

Opposition stars:  Shawn Haviland pitched 7.1 innings, allowing two runs on seven hits and no walks with five strikeouts.  Humberto Quintero was 1-for-3 with a double and a run.  Mike Miller was 1-for-3 with a double.

The game:  Arcia broke a scoreless tie with a one-out RBI double in the fifth.  James Beresford singled in a run in the eighth to make it 2-0.  The Red Sox scored one in the eighth and had a man on first with one out, but their last five batters were retired.

Of note:  Beresford was 1-for-4 with an RBI.  Doug Bernier was 1-for-4.  Reynaldo Rodriguez was 1-for-4.  Danny Ortiz was 0-for-4.

CHATTANOOGA 8, JACKSON 2 IN CHATTANOOGA

Batting stars:  Stuart Turner was 3-for-4 with a run and an RBI.  Niko Goodrum was 2-for-4 with a walk and two runs.  D. J. Hicks was 2-for-5 with two RBIs.

Pitching stars:  David Hurlbut pitched seven innings, giving up two runs on six hits and three walks with three strikeouts.  Alex Wimmers struck out two in a perfect inning.  Nick Burdi struck out two in a perfect inning.

Opposition stars:  Ian Miller was 3-for-4 with a triple.  Zach Shank was 1-for-2 with two walks and a run.  Jordy Lara was 1-for-4 with a double and two RBIs.

The game:  Hicks' two-run single in the third broke a 2-2 tie and put the Lookouts ahead 4-2.  They then scored three in the fourth to put the game out of reach.

Of note:  Shannon Wilkerson was 3-for-5.  Jorge Polanco was 0-for-3 with a walk, scoring once and driving in one.  Max Kepler was 0-for-2 with three walks and a run.  Adam Brett Walker II was 1-for-5 with a double, scoring once and driving in one.

FORT MYERS 5, CHARLOTTE 1 IN FORT MYERS

Batting stars:  Ryan Walker was 2-for-4 with a double and a walk, scoring twice.  Bryan Haar was 3-for-4 with a run and an RBI.  Tanner Vavra was 1-for-2 with two walks and two RBIs.

Pitching stars:  Stephen Gonsalves pitched six innings, giving up one run on two hits and no walks with five strikeouts.  Matt Summers pitched three shutout innings, giving up a hit and a walk with two strikeouts.

Opposition stars:  Justin Williams was 1-for-3 with a double and a run.  Pat Blair was 1-for-3 with an RBI.  Mike Marjama was 1-for-4 with a double.

The game:  Walker doubled home a run in the first, Vavra singled in two in the second, and Haar had an RBI single in the fourth to put the Miracle ahead 4-0.  Each team scored once in the fifth, but the Stone Crabs never threatened to get back into the game.

Of note:  Engelb Vielma was 0-for-5.  Logan Wade was 1-for-4 with a double.

CEDAR RAPIDS 5, WISCONSIN 4 IN CEDAR RAPIDS

Batting stars:  T. J. White was 2-for-3 with a double and two runs.  LaMonte Wade was 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI.  Alex Real was 1-for-3 with a run and an RBI.

Pitching stars:  Sam Gibbons pitched six innings, giving up two runs on five hits and two walks with four strikeouts.  Zach Tillery pitched a scoreless inning, giving up a hit and a walk.  Nick Anderson pitched a scoreless inning, giving up a hit with one strikeout.

Opposition stars:  Angel Ventura struck out eight in six innings, allowing three runs (one earned) on four hits and two walks.  Sthervin Matos was 1-for-2 with two walks, scoring twice.  Tucker Neuhaus was 2-for-5 with two RBIs.

The game:  Three singles and an error put the Kernels up 3-0 in the fourth.  The Timber Rattlers cut it to 3-2 after six and scored two in the seventh to take the lead.  In the eighth, however, a walk, a double, and Wade's RBI single put the Kernels back in front 5-4.  The Timber Rattlers got a man to third in both the eighth and the ninth but could not score.

Of note:  Rafael P. Valera was 0-for-4 with a walk.  Nick Gordon was 0-for-5.  Edgar Corcino was 0-for-3 with a walk and two runs.
