Minor Details: Games of April 20

A good outing by Alex Meyer is wasted.  A good outing by Aaron Slegers is not.  Max Murphy and John Curtiss lead the Kernels to victory.

PAWTUCKET 2, ROCHESTER 0 IN ROCHESTER

Sam Travis hit a two-run double in the sixth and that was all the scoring.  Alex Meyer pitched well, giving up two runs on five hits and two walks with seven strikeouts in seven innings.  He took a line drive off his leg in the sixth, but remained in the game and was apparently all right.  The Red Wings had a total of four hits and they were achieved by only two players, with John Hicks going 2-for-4 with a double and Buck Britton going 2-for-4.  The Red Wings, as a team, are hitting .211/.272/.298 for an OPS of .571.

CHATTANOOGA 6, MISSISSIPPI 2 IN MISSISSIPPI

An RBI single by Daniel Palka put the Lookouts ahead in the fifth and they scored once in each of the last three innings to put away the victory.  Aaron Slegers pitched seven strong innings, giving up two runs on only four hits and one walk with three strikeouts.  D. J. Hicks was 3-for-5  and Joe Maloney was 2-for-3 with a home run and two walks.  Stuart Turner went 0-for-3 with a walk to drop his average to .321.

JUPITER 4, FORT MYERS 3 IN FORT MYERS

Brian Anderson tripled and scored on a balk in the eighth to break a 3-3 tie and give the victory to the Hammerheads.  Kohl Stewart struck out eight in 5.1 innings but gave up three runs on six hits and a walk.  Trey Vavra was 3-for-4 with a home run and a double.  Nick Gordon went 0-for-4, dropping his average to .327.

CEDAR RAPIDS 6, BURLINGTON 3 IN BURLINGTON

The Kernels trailed 3-1 after three and 3-2 after six, but a two-out bases-loaded triple by Max Murphy in the seventh put Cedar Rapids in the lead for good.  They had filled the bases on a hit batsman, a walk, and an error.  John Curtiss came on in the eighth and struck out five in two shutout innings, allowing only a walk.  Andro Cutura started and went five innings, giving up three runs on five hits and two walks with four strikeouts.  Sean Miller was 2-for-3 with a double.  LaMonte Wade was 1-for-5 with a home run, dropping his average to .358.
