I finally get to join my family for Independence Day weekend at the cabin, seven or eight years after the tradition started. I was afraid being back home after so long would be underwhelming, but so far I'm still overjoyed not to be stuck in Phoenix.

NFL quarterbacks John Elway and Jay Schroeder each played minor league baseball. Elway hit .318 in 151 at-bats as an outfielder for Class A Oneonta in 1982. Schroeder was primarily an outfielder for four years in the Toronto system, never getting higher than Class A. He hit .213 with 36 homers in 1,304 minor league at-bats.
Mark Grace was drafted by Minnesota in the fifteenth round of the January draft in 1984, but did not sign.

2016 Game 75: Twins at Yankees

Nathan Eovaldi (6-4, 5.02 ERA, 1.351 WHIP)
Twenty games out of first place in the division before the All-Star break is pretty bad. There's no coming back with that albatross around your neck. But even in failure there's opportunity, if only the FO would see it. The past is written and the present is a cluster[redacted], so you have to look to the future and let the kids play. This year is not a waste if Molitor uses it to give the new nucleus of this team some valuable major league experience. With that in mind, Tyler Duffy will try to shut down the Yankees lineup while Nathan Eovaldi tries the same with ours. Neither pitcher has fared very well on the mound recently, so I expect something less than a pitcher's duel today.

June 26, 2016: Grandfather
My grandpa Wells is pretty much gone. He sort of surprised all of us by singing along to "Happy Birthday to You" with his eyes still closed at his own birthday party, and he clapped dutifully along with us as it was over. One aunt, already a wreck, was beside herself at this time and continued to try to explain to him who he was and why we were all here.
He's forgotten me, but he was glad to hear I'm a grandson and that I love him. His memory is useless, but his capacity to love has not left him. He's had a great life. I doubt it'll last much longer, but I can't complain about the life he had.
