    1. if you want to cut to the chase, go to 3:50 or so.

It is a powerful statement, well worth your time.

  1. In my life there's been heartache and pain
I don't know if I can face it again
Can't stop now, I've traveled so far
    To change this lonely life
I wanna know what lube is
I want you to show me
I wanna feel what lube is
I know you can show me

      1. He just wants to fill the world with silly lube songs
        What's wrong with that?
        I need to know
        'Cause here I ago again

        I lube you
        I lube you

You'd think that people would have had enough of silly lube songs
I look around me and I see it isn't so, oh no
Some people want to fill the world with silly lube songs
        What's wrong with that?

    1. I never want to hear you say
That you'd be better off or you liked it that way

No one is ever gonna lube you more than I do
No one's gonna lube you more than I do

      Someone; They should've warned you
When things start splitting at the seams and now
The whole thing's tumbling down... hard

      1. Lube this tune. If I was playing, this would have been my contribution. BoH and Cee Lo both.

        1. I heard CeeLo first. I much prefer the version in the music video to the album version ultimately released. Especially with the dialogue snippets. It's called the Paul Epworth Remix.
The album version's too hopeful. The video version is equally melancholic. I put it slightly above BoH, with the Cee Lo album version well below.

P.S. How did I miss this awesome cover for the BoH single? (That's a Turkey Vulture.)

            1. Up here, too. Doesn't stop it from being an awesome bird.
When I was 10 or so, we visited Devil's Lake in Wisconsin. Big rock bluffs ring much of the lake, and as we hiked around the rim, the Turkey Vultures would soar at eye level within 10 yards of where we were. So close I could see daylight through their nostrils. Among inland North American birds, Turkey Vultures must have the best sense of smell. (Most birds have none. Even the closely-related Black Vulture doesn't have much of one, often relying on Turkey Vultures to find carcasses for them.)

              1. So close I could see daylight through their nostrils.

This has got to be the best sentence about a bird I have ever read.

                1. David Foster Wallace would like a word with you.

One semion that still works fine is holding your fist up and cranking at it with the other hand so the finger you're giving somebody goes up like a drawbridge.

          1. I'd agree with your assessment of the various versions, though I have to say that Cee Lo's remix/video version completely changed the way I 'understood' the song.

            1. It's a complicated song to unwrap, that's for sure.
I've got different takes depending upon how I'm feeling at the time.

                1. that is ... not a take I'd ever considered.

Sometimes, I wonder about my parenting aptitude.

    1. Add a HOMER to that and you have yourself a Bryant-Lake Bowl bowling ball. Now you need some matching shoes.

    1. It looks like the games available is fixed and you can't add any later. I was mildly disappointed in that but it does include 99% of what I would want.

      1. I kind of wonder how well they could do if they had an app store and curated the apps to games that fit the style of the console (48 colors and 6 grays, four directional arrows, A/B, start, select). With the right API, it might not be that hard for developers to adapt existing games for it. If Nintendo was just trying to tap into nostalgia and not too tied to the idea of only Nintendo games, you could do something like adapt some of the old PC classics like Duke Nukem, Wolfenstein, Street Fighter, etc. It would actually be pretty cool to play some of those games with a controller on a bigger screen instead of with a keyboard and an early-'90s PC monitor.

I think there could even be a market for new games in the way that there is a market for board games--by limiting what you can do technically, you'd have to focus more on the game mechanics or story line.

    2. I came here to post about this as well.

I have an old system hooked up to a CRT in my basement but for $60 I am definitely going to get one of these just for the convenience of a good-looking signal on an HDTV (it has HDMI output).

Definitely a solid group of games, wonder how long it will be before people hack the system to open it to everything or if Nintendo has plans to offer 'expansion packs.

      1. I'm sure they'll come out with special editions with themes like a sports theme, etc. Too bad RBI is selling retro mobile games because a retro NES wouldn't seem right without RBI, although my favorite was Baseball Simulator 3000, which played just like RBI but you could edit your teams (names and abilities) and you had weird stadiums you could use, like Space Stadium, etc. It also had super abilities you could use for one ball in play, like exploding baseballs or an earthquake ball. Also, Tecmo Bowl sucked. Tecmo Super Bowl was the greatest game ever made.

        1. Aye. Tecmo Super Bowl is the greatest game ever made.

It's Baseball Simulator 1.000. Your description is spot on. RBI has some more nostalgia value, probably because of the player names (and hey, a good Twins team), but 1.000 is just better at every turn.

    3. Yeah, I'll buy that. Dr. Chop and I are of the correct demographic to fall victim to the nostalgia.

    4. That is pretty nifty. However, I want the Super NES one
Start with these games: Super Mario World, Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island, Legend of Zelda: Link to the Past, Super Metroid, Super Mario Kart, Final Fantasy II, Final Fantasy III, Chrono Trigger, Secret of Mana, Mega Man X, Street Fighter II, Mortal Kombat II

  2. Last night while walking around the Old Market area here, I think the jogger, homeless man, and I were the only ones out of the dozens that were not holding a cellphone out in front of us.

    1. I am taking an old man stance against Pokémon Go. Everyone else can play it to their heart's delight, just GOML. I also have an old man stance against listening to music while running. Never did it in seven years of cross country, don't see the need to do it now. Bah humbug.

      1. I would like to be able to listen to music while exercising, but a lot of enjoyment of music for me is singing along. I can't sing along if I'm exercising.

      2. I've just read about real estate deals that include Pokemon gyms and special features included with the act of sale. Jesus save us.

          1. This morning I showed up early at HealthTrax in Avon at 5:15 to meet my running gang. Some dude drives up holding his phone inches from his face. Rolls down his window...
He: You here for the Pokemon deal?
            Me: Come again?
            He (frenetically): The Pokemon Go?
            Me: No, we're running.
He blitzes out of the parking lot, but we see him zipping by later. Natch.

      3. You lost me on the music stance. I love having something to listen to when working out/running. I find I like running to prog rock particularly, as the often mixed-meter doesn't create a cadence that I can unintentionally fall into when running.

        1. I'm with Neil ubes.

If you wanna have headphones on/earbuds in when you are on the treadmill/bike/whatever, fine. But I just want to get my sweat done.

        2. It sounds dopey, but running was always kind of a meditative experience for me. Now that I'm even more surrounded by external stimuli, I consider it kind of a refuge where I can think my own thoughts without being bothered.

      4. Ditto on the former. I never got the Pokemon craze when my kids were young, and I don't get it now that they're grown up.

          1. +10 WGOM bucks for being the first person to use the Beatles and the Twins in the same sentence. Yowzer!

      1. The PR and I met with Michael last night. He seemed very good. We might end up using him. He also brought Kyle along.

        1. They're both good and have checked in on us a couple of times since closing just to make sure things are going as expected.

    1. Welp. That was a largely wasted 450 dollars. He found exactly three issues. An outlet doesn't work because the electrician didn't pig tail it right, the electrician didn't label the breakers, and the master bath faucet isn't tight. Blarf. I knew these things and could have requested them / fixed them without feeing taken advantage of without the cost. Peace of mind I suppose.

      1. Fwiw, we have had our Escape in twice in the past week to replace the same O2 sensor. Aaaaand the check engine light went on again today.

        1. Your best bet might be to get an OBDII scanner and clear that code when it pops up. Fookin check engine light.

          1. Well, we gotta pass smog.....

The OBDII sensor (neighbor's) is how we have identified the problem so far. Now I am worried that there is a leak somewhere or a problem with the computer, since that O2 sensor has now been replaced twice.

    1. Also, was so tempted to get 12th row seats for Duran Duran next weekend. Lots of change, but AFAICT it's a pretty entertaining concert.

  3. Minnedemo is in a few hours. anyone want a ticket? I have one I'm not sure I'll be able to use.

    1. So the Rays loaned Jepsen to the Twins for about a season in exchange for Hu. At least it was longer than the Twins having Sam Fuld.

      1. mmm, Sam Fuld. That turned out to be a pretty good deal for the Twins. Signed off of Oakland's scrap heap, got 53 pretty good games from him, then traded back to Oakland for Tommy Milone.

            1. what are you talking about? He had a career 806 OPS (124 OPS+) with the A's before signing with the Twins!!!!111one111!!!
