2016 Game 99 — Twins v. Barves

Admit it, you’ve had this game circled on the calendar since the schedules came out last fall.  Twins-Barves.  Jack Morris v. John Smoltz.  Red State-Blue State.  North v. South. Two struggling teams trying to rekindle the glory of 1991 or at least position themselves to draft J.B. Bukauskas next June.  A.J. Pierzynski’s triumphant return home.

Ervin Santana on the mound for the Twins in what may be his last chance to smell baseball for hometown nine.  Weather looks glorious for outdoor baseball.  I’ll be there if anyone wants to mini-caucus.  And if you want to boo A.J., you won’t catch any shade from me.  Want to cheer him?  That works too.

  1. Why is that fair/foul call not able to be challenged? I mean, I get that it could be hard to tell, but if you could tell, why wouldn't you want to be able to get the call right?

  2. Not very often you see a 6-pitch inning in which a run scores. Santana has allowed 2 runs in 3 innings on 24 pitches. Might want to start pitching backwards.

    1. Depends on your view of luck, I guess. Braves have had 3 base runners and 2 have scored (1 a HR). Twins have had 4 base runners and none have scored (1 thrown out on attempted steal of third base with Sano at the plate).

  3. I love how, for Dazzle, trying to steal bases or trying to bunt for hits is always, "a good, smart, aggressive play", no matter how many times it doesn't work.

  4. Joe Nathan and Justin Morneau have both been on my TV tonight. I'm starting to wonder what year it is.

  5. The Twins' poor record in games where they score zero runs continues. We'll just have to settle for 100-62!
