Minor Details: Games of May 23

An excellent start by Jason Wheeler.  Toronto rehabbers take care of the Miracle.  Jaylin Davis hits his tenth homer for the Kernels.

ROCHESTER 4, DURHAM 0 IN ROCHESTER

All the runs scored in the second inning.  It opened with singles by ByungHo Park and Matt Hague.  A one-out double by J. B. Shuck made it 2-0.  A two-out double by Engelb Vielma made it 3-0 and Zack Granite followed with a single to make it 4-0.  The only time the Bulls got a man past first was in the eighth, when a single and a double put men on second and third with none out.  A line drive double play and a foul out ended the inning.

Jason Wheeler made his best start of the season, striking out nine in seven innings while giving up five hits and walking none.  Trevor Hildenberger pitched two shutout innings of relief to drop his ERA to 2.70.  Shuck was 2-for-3 with two doubles.  Vielma was 2-for-3 with a double.

Each team had a player in the lineup named "Field", Tommy for the Red Wings and Johnny for the Bulls.  Neither of them made an error.  As far as I could tell, they are not related.

CHATTANOOGA LOOKOUTS

No game scheduled.

DUNEDIN 3, FORT MYERS 2 IN DUNEDIN

It was a bit of an unfair fight, as Josh Donaldson and Troy Tulowitzki were both playing for Dunedin on a rehab assignment.  Donaldson was 2-for-3 with a walk and an RBI and Tulowitzki hit a home run.

The Blue Jays scored single runs in the first, second, and fifth to take a 3-0 lead.  Zander Weil hit a two-run homer in the sixth to make it 3-2.  The Miracle threatened in the ninth, when a single and an error put men on first and second with none out.  A force out and a line drive double play ended the game.

Lachlan Wells pitched five innings, giving up three runs on six hits and a walk with four strikeouts.  Cam Booser made his 2017 debut with two shutout innings, giving up just two walks.  Sam Clay pitched a scoreless inning to make his ERA 2.16.  Weil was 2-for-3 and the home run was his sixth.  Kevin Garcia was 1-for-4 and is batting .304.  Tanner English was 1-for-4 and is batting .303.

CLINTON 7, CEDAR RAPIDS 1 IN CEDAR RAPIDS

No big inning, but the LumberKings scored one in the first and two in each of the third, fourth, and fifth innings.  The Kernels got their lone run in the fourth on a Jaylin Davis homer.  Cedar Rapids had nine hits but went 1-for-10 with men in scoring position.

Dominick Carlini got through five innings but allowed seven runs on eleven hits and one walk with two strikeouts.  Zach Tillery and Max Cordy each struck out two in two shutout innings.  Davis was 2-for-4 and the home run was his tenth.  Caleb Hamilton was 2-for-3.  Jermaine Palacios was 1-for-4 and is batting .327.
