Minor Details: Games of May 26

A rough outing for Nick Tepesch.  Stephen Gonsalves takes a big step forward.  An eight-run inning for Fort Myers.  A Kernels comeback falls short.

INDIANAPOLIS 11, ROCHESTER 6 IN ROCHESTER

Leading 4-2 after three, the Indians scored seven runs in the fourth to put the game out of reach.  They had four doubles in the inning.

Nick Tepesch lasted 3.1 innings, allowing nine runs on seven hits and two walks.  He did get five strikeouts.  Kevin Chapman pitched two shutout innings and Michael Tonkin struck out two in a scoreless inning.  Engelb Vielma was 3-for-4 with a double.  Daniel Palka was 2-for-5 with a home run, his eighth.  Matt Hague was 2-for-4 with a walk.  Mitch Garver was 2-for-5.  Niko Goodrum hit a home run, his fourth.

CHATTANOOGA 3, MONTGOMERY 2 IN CHATTANOOGA

Grant Kay's RBI single in the seventh tied it 2-2, but the Lookouts took the lead in the eighth when Nick Gordon walked, took second on a ground out, and scored from second on a strikeout/wild pitch.  The Biscuits went down in order in the ninth.

Stephen Gonsalves, in only his second start of the season, struck out seven in seven innings, giving up two runs on six hits and no walks.  Todd Van Steensel and Mason Melotakis each pitched a scoreless inning, lowering their ERAs to 2.20 and 2.37, respectively.  Nick Gordon was 1-for-3 with a walk to make his average .303.  Edgar Corcino was 0-for-4 to make his average .307.

FORT MYERS 17, CHARLOTTE 1 IN CHARLOTTE

An eight-run second inning put this one away early.  A hit batsman and two walks loaded the bases with none out.  Four singles, a walk, a double, and an error produced the runs.  The Miracle added five more in the third to make it a real rout.

Dereck Rodriguez pitched five innings, giving up one run on three hits and no walks with four strikeouts.  He threw just 61 pitches--no word on whether there was an injury or if he was just removed to save innings in a laugher.  Michael Theofanopoulos pitched three shutout innings of relief.  Nick Anderson struck out three in a scoreless inning to make his ERA 0.93.  He has 20 strikeouts and 3 walks in 19.1 innings.  Sean Miller was 4-for-6.  Chris Paul was 3-for-5 with two doubles and four RBIs to make his average .350.  Nelson Molina was 3-for-5 with a walk.  Alex Perez was 2-for-4 with two walks.  Max Murphy was 2-for-7.  Tanner English hit a home run, his second.

KANE COUNTY 2, CEDAR RAPIDS 1 IN KANE COUNTY

The Cougars scored single runs in the first and third.  The Kernels did not break through until the ninth, when Jaylin Davis hit a two-run double and scored on a Travis Blankenhorn single.  A Brandon Lopez single put men on first and second, but a ground out ended the game.

Max Cordy made his second start after spending most of the season in the bullpen.  He pitched three innings, giving up two unearned runs on four hits and a walk with five strikeouts.  I don't know if he's being stretched out to stay in the rotation or if they've just needed to go with a couple of bullpen games.  Ryan Mason and Patrick McGuff each made their 2017 debut and each was successful, with Mason striking out three in three shutout innings and McGuff striking out two in two shutout innings.  Blankenhorn was 2-for-4.  Jermaine Palacios was 0-for-4 and is batting .317.
