Minor Details: Games of June 6

Nik Turley was dominant.  Tyler Wells was not quite as dominant but possibly more effective.  The Lookouts lose in extra innings.  DSL Twins pitchers are off to an excellent start.

ROCHESTER 8, SCRANTON/WILKES-BARRE 1 IN ROCHESTER

It was scoreless until the sixth, when Mitch Garver hit a three-run homer to put the Red Wings in front.  Rochester scored three more in the seventh on one hit, getting help from two walks and three errors.  The lone RailRider run came in the ninth.  Ex-Twin J. R. Graham pitched the last 1.1 innings and allowed two runs on four hits and a walk with two strikeouts.

Nik Turley was dominant, striking out fifteen in just six shutout innings while giving up four hits and two walks.  Drew Rucinski pitched two shutout innings to drop his ERA to 2.42.  Zack Granite was 3-for-5 with a double, his fifth consecutive game with two or more hits.  Garver's home run was his fourth.

JACKSON 4, CHATTANOOGA 2 IN CHATTANOOGA (14 INNINGS)

Nick Gordon had an RBI single in the third, Kevin Cron hit a two-run homer in the fourth, and Gordon had another RBI single in the fifth, adding up to a 2-2 tie.  It stayed tied until the fourteenth.  In the top of the inning, a single, a walk, and a passed ball put men on second and third for the Generals.  A sacrifice fly scored one run and Kelly Dugan singled home another to put Jackson up 4-2.  The Lookouts put their first two men on base in the bottom of the inning, but a double play and a ground out ended the game.

Matt Tracy pitched six innings, giving up two runs on five hits and two walks with five strikeouts.  Todd Van SteenselLuke Bard, and Mason Melotakis each pitched two scoreless innings, making their ERAs 2.05, 2.96, and 2.35, respectively.  Gordon was 4-for-6 with a walk and is batting .305.  Edgar Corcino was 3-for-7 and is batting .301.  Ryan Walker was 2-for-5 with a double and a walk.

FORT MYERS AT PALM BEACH (DOUBLEHEADER)

Rained out.

CEDAR RAPIDS 7, CLINTON 2 IN CLINTON

The Kernels scored in four of the first five innings, building a 5-0 lead.  The LumberKings had only two hits through the first six innings, both singles.  Clinton's catcher, Yojhan Quevedo, was injured in a play at the plate in the first inning.  Their other catcher, Nick Thurman, had been in the lineup as the DH but had to come in and catch, meaning the pitchers batted the entire game.  They went 0-for-2 and were pinch-hit for once.

Tyler Wells had an excellent game, striking out seven in six shutout innings while giving up two hits and no walks.  His ERA is now 2.05 and he has 62 strikeouts in 44 innings.  It may be time to move him up.  Colton Davis pitched a scoreless inning to make his ERA 1.73.  Jermaine Palacios was 3-for-5 with a home run (his eighth) and a triple, raising his average to .327.  Jaylin Davis was 2-for-3 with a walk.

  1. There are a couple of morning games today, if anyone is interested in following them.
