Minor Details: Games of April 12

The Red Wings win a long game despite the Manfred Rule.  Four shutout innings for Stephen Gonsalves.  Lewin Diaz and Jimmy Kerrigan lead the Miracle.  A four-run sixth carries the Kernels.

ROCHESTER 7, GWINNETT 6 IN GWINNETT (14 INNINGS)

I don't think this is quite how the Manfred Rule is supposed to work.  It was 3-3 after nine.  Each team scored once in the tenth.  Intentional walks, strikeouts, and double plays thwarted both teams in the eleventh and twelfth.  Each team scored once in the thirteenth.  In the fourteenth, RBI single by Gregorio Petit and Jake Cave put the Red Wings ahead 7-5.  The Stripers got one in the bottom of the inning and put the tying run on second with two out.

Cave was 4-for-6 with a walk and is batting .316.  Willians Astudillo was 2-for-6 with two RBIs.  Petit was 2-for-5 with a walk and is batting .375.  Nick Buss was 2-for-6 and is batting .333.  Myles Jaye pitched 5.2 innings, giving up three runs on seven hits and no walks and striking out one.  John Curtiss struck out four in two shutout innings.

PENSACOLA 3, CHATTANOOGA 0 IN PENSACOLA

RBI doubles by Josh VanMeter and Aristedes Aquino gave the Blue Wahoos a 2-0 lead in the sixth.  The Lookouts had only five hits, all singles, and had only two at-bats with men in scoring position.

Stephen Gonsalves struck out five in four shutout innings, giving up three hits and three walks.  He threw seventy-one pitches.  I don't know if he was on a pitch count or if there was some other reason he came out.  Omar Bencomo pitched a perfect inning and struck out one.  Zander Weil was 1-for-4 and is batting .368.  Nick Gordon was 0-for-4 and is batting .333

FORT MYERS 8, FLORIDA 2 IN FORT MYERS

Lewin Diaz hit a two-run homer in the second to give the Miracle a 2-0 lead.  It was 4-1 after five, then Fort Myers scored four in the sixth to put the game out of reach.

Diaz was 2-for-4 with a double in addition to the home run.  He drove in three.  Jimmy Kerrigan was 2-for-3 and is batting .440.  Mitchell Kranson was 1-for-3 with a double and two walks, driving in two, and is batting .304.  Tyler Wells struck out eight in five innings, giving up one run on one hit and one walk.  Cody Stashak struck out two in two shutout innings, giving up one hit.

CEDAR RAPIDS 9, PEORIA 5 IN PEORIA

The Kernels trailed 4-0, led 5-4, were tied 5-5, and then scored four in the eighth to take the win.  A two-run error and a two-run double by Mark Contreras brought home the runs.

Contreras was 3-for-3 with a double and a walk and is batting .533.  Royce Lewis was 2-for-5 with a three-run homer.  Akil Baddoo was 2-for-5 with a triple and two RBIs.  Alex Kirilloff was 2-for-5 with a double.  Nick Brown pitched 4.2 innings, giving up four runs on six hits and four walks and striking out three.  Jared Finkel pitched two shutout innings, giving up two hits and a walk and striking out one.
