July 5, 2018: Cup Runneth Over

Like an unfolded garden hose, the Pedre is unleashing a Minor Details every hour on the hour this morning. Might as well start checking out the future of this ballclub as the present version isn't all that promising.

  1. Yes indeed, Minor Details gets caught up today. I don't expect people to read them all, although you're certainly welcome to. I do it because a) it's interesting to me, at least, and b) I have a thing about completeness. Maybe it's some OCD, I don't know. That thing will be tested when I'm gone for a week in mid-August, but we'll deal with that when it gets here.

      1. In French, perdre is the verb "to lose," but I think we're better off going with the Catalan meaning.

        1. Seriously? A 33-year old, mediocre journeyman, undersized PF?

I mean, ok, BJelly looks like a 30-year old, mediocre journeyman, so it ain't that big of an issue. But I don't get it.

          1. Would it surprise you to hear they also are going to be paying Tolliver more than what the sixers signed Bjelica?

    1. He took over Ricky Rubio's unit in my building. I wonder if another Timberwolves player will move in next.

  2. I do essentially zero music streaming, but those that are members of that one entity named after long river can get 4 months of their Unlimited access for one dollar. Figured I might as well give it a shot (just gotta remember to cancel it when its over).

    1. I resisted as long as I could against the likes of Spotify and its ilk, but damn if it's not handy to be able to play whichever song that Newbish decides he needs to hear right then and there.

Back in my day, we had one or two cassettes/tapes, and we played them until our parents longed for the sweet embrace of death. Kids these days....

      1. When we visited Grandma on her vacation in Florida, they had one of those smart speakers. It was a few days back at home before the boy stopped asking random objects to play a particular song.

          1. Oh, I use Pandora for playlists -- Youtube is for quick fix events like you described. I'm exploring Particle's Launchpad album as we speak.

    2. I can find ads for this deal, but none of the links bring me to a spot on Amazon where I can find the promotion. Probably because I've done that one before.
      It's like...they know, man!

    3. No one's at work today, so I'm giving it a workout this afternoon. I'm probably one of the few weirdos that uses it for full albums.

      Play History (updating):

Let's Eat Grandma - I'm All Ears: Dense and weird. Definitely going to need to come back to this one.
King Princess - Make My Bed: Not sure if this one's a fit for me (nor do I think I'm the target market). Pretty bloated production.
Snail Mail - Habit: Okay. Hopefully the new album is a little more lively.
Christine And The Queens - Christine And The Queens: Keepin the lady train going. Liked their song on the Summer Mix. Always time for some good synth pop.
Moses Sumney - Aromanticism: I never gave his EP the plays it deserved. Album is real good, if a little sullen. Drawing on a lot of influences. Also needs more listens.
Toots & The Maytals - Sweet And Dandy: <in progress>

        1. Dear god, yes. I do not have the time to hunt down things via less-than-savory means like I used to, but I still have a voracious desire to check out tons of stuff. I've been trying to keep track of everything new I've been listening to, and I've listened to 60 new albums so far. It's also handy for the times when I have a sudden urge to listen to something, and I don't have to maintain a massive amount of files on my phone or whatever.

  3. Twins sign first-round pick Trevor Larnach to $2.55M, which is below the slot value of $3.12M. So some good news for the Twins for once (though not unexpected).

  4. So the article I read about the FO telling the team that pending free agents are on the auction block only included Dozier, Escobar, Lynn and Duke. Joe Mauer, Fernando Rodney, Bobby Wilson, Matt Belisle and Chris Carter are also 2019 free agents but were not listed as being immediately expendable. Mauer has a no-trade clause, so he's not going anywhere.

          1. The “fans” who’ve mocked Mauer’s brain injuries & denied his greatness deserve every humbling Vikings playoff meltdown they have coming to them.

    1. At best, Rodney might bring a flier. I could see them keeping him simply because someone has to close the few games they’re still going to win. I’m not sure why Wilson & Belisle aren’t simply immediate DFA candidates. Might as well let Astudillo split time with Garver until Castro returns (yes, next season). And anyone at Rochester deserves a spot ahead of a 38-year-old with a 1.500+ WHIP (SSS, but still).

    2. Bobby Wilson, Matt Belisle, and Chris Carter would be on the list of "expendable but not tradable".

    1. I read it so you don't have to. The entire article is basically the Rainier Wolfcastle "that's the joke" meme.
