Twins up against the Astros again after a nice mashing last night. Michael Pineda up for the Twins and he has done as well as expected through four games with a 2-1 record and almost a SO per inning. Also at 6’7”, 265 lbs, I wonder if he had been born in the United States if Pineda would have played football or basketball, the dude is huge. Wade Miley on the mound for the Astros and if you’ve been forgoing anything in a Lent-like fashion until the Twins faced a lefty starter, well today is the day you can finally partake. Congratulations on getting this far with that. Miley has been serviceable but doesn’t throw a ton of strikeouts. He has held opponents to 3 earned runs or less for 20 straight starts, so he’s got that going for him. Which is nice.
Important game for the Twins to win as Verlander up for the ‘Stros tomorrow. Be nice to get a win tonight and not have to worry about Wednesday’s game. First pitch at 7:10p.
Twins Line Up:
C Garver
SS Polanco
DH Cruz
LF Rosario
1B Cron
3B Gonzalez
2B Schoop
RF Kepler
CF Buxton
Oh boy, Angel Hernandez behind the plate tonight.
A questionable call by Angel Hernandez. Who'd have thought?
ROSARIO!!!!!!!!
In play, run(s)!
Spookied!
There you go, Michael- can you run with that?
It'll depend on how angel hernandez is feeling each inning.
Hey everyone - just finished yard work with my son and now we are watching the Twins game together. He is watching the catchers closely as that is he new little league position. Im a happy dad.

You might mention that it’s rare for catchers to bat lead off.
Hey, Geoff! Catcher was my primary position. I hope your son has as much fun as I did behind the plate. One of my oldest cousins handed down my first mitt, which I still have. (That reminds me — it needs to be re-laced.) Many happy memories wearing the tools of ignorance.
He is big for his age and he is pretty mild mannered so if he takes to it I think he could do well. I need to get him a catchers mitt.
I’m fine with Rosario & Company neutralizing the sham that Angel Hernandez perpetrates behind the plate.
Giving up a leadoff walk is not cool.
But retiring the next three batters is cool.
I apparently had some kind of dream that Angel Hernandez was out of the league. I know it’s damned near impossible for an umpire to lose a job, but I possibly would have put down money that he did. I also had a dream once that I went fishing to try to catch retired Samoan pro wrestler Rikishi, so maybe don’t listen to me.
+1 ass to the face
Corey Koskie had a meeting with my wife’s company today. He’s starting a company to better educate sports parents. Everyone said he was a really nice guy (shocking, I know). Apparently he’ll be signing some stuff for me next time he drops by.
He is Canadian.
Cron continues to look good out there.
No giveback runs, thats cool.
Not that Atteberry is wrong, but it annoys me that you have to "scout the umpire". The strike zone isn't supposed to change according to the umpire's whim. In other words, Robo Umps Now!
I wonder if it was a point of emphasis this year because, strictly by the eye test, I've felt like the strike zones haven't been too bad to start the season. (uh, angel hernandez tonight excepted. It's been so bad already.)
In 2008, the first year imps were analyzed for this, they missed 16% of ball / strike calls. Now they're down to 9% missed calls.
Not that I’m listening to the radio guys right now, but Atteberry’s observation seems to be reacting to the reality of baseball at worst (and a subtle jab at Angel at best).
But yes, robot umps now.
There really is no reason to wait for this any longer.
I thought somebody said Miley doesn't get a lot of strikeouts.
So apparently Pineda doesn't really start pitching until there's a man on base.
Whatever works!
I've been charting the strikezone tonight.
Dick: “Rightly or wrongly, Angel Hernandez has a reputation of not being a quality umpire.”
He just couldn't help but hedge it.
By even doing that much, he surprised me.
This inning is not off to a good start.
But it ended much better.
So I was keeping track of the game on ESPN gameday. We are up 3-1 and our win probability just dropped to 40.3%.
The margin of error is +/-Angel Hernandez
Must be relying on last year’s data.
Not sure if it’s changed, but the MLB.com power rankings have had the Twins at 15th every time I’ve looked, regardless of the success the previous week. They’re just so sure this is smoke and mirrors.
That was a timely double play.
Damage limited.
So, Marwin Mendoza, then.
He wishes.
Marlins beat the Indians
Pineda got the first batter of the inning out. I hope that's good.
A one-two-three inning! How about that?
Yeah, Dazzle, I don't see Pineda going eight innings tonight.
Just more of that trademark Dazzle optimism.
I'm not arguing balls and strikes....
Thats one DP ball here and move on to the next inning.
Not a great throw, but good to see respect for Kepler's arm.
I look at Springer with his tall socks and dirt all over his uni and can’t help liking him.
I like him a tad less now...
If only he'd signed with the team that originally drafted him.
I’d forgotten about that, but yes.
Good block, Mitch.
Big K.
Dazzle: "Guys who walk take a lot of pitches".
Well, yeah, at least four, anyway.
Funny, I thought the same thing.
Dang it.
nice hitting!
Two first pitch swings. I like watching aggressive hitting
Good work, Max.
Opportunity knocks.
so close.
Hope that's the beginning of a long new streak for Buxton.
Brantly's pretty good.
:/
It does appear Dick's audio is a split second of the video. I don't think it's him being preemptive.
Yeah, been happening too much to be him making calls. Weird that the problem would be season-long.
I've been getting it, but was wondering if it was my... "unusual" source.
My brain must be slow because I haven’t experienced this.
I thought Garver was going yard there. Dagnabit.
Warning track Pauer
Have to say, some nice ‘at-the-wall’ defense by Brantley (and Reddick earlier) keeping things close.
I preferred Redick's play at the wall yesterday
Buxton has 100% of the Twins' steals so far. He has only 25% of the CS though.
My goodness. Did the traveling secretary leave the strikes at the hotel tonight?
Criminy Pete.
Hildy does better with the bases loaded, even if he has to load them himself
I would settle for 90% of his best with the bases unloaded.
That was not a good throw.
Not sure even an on target throw would have got him.
It would've been close under the best circumstances, but it looked like he wasn't quite as set to make a strong one.
This game has me too riled for an April tilt.
And now a little more so. It might be time to call it a night.
I'm working on my comments for a symposium this weekend with the game in the background. I'm starting to get the feeling like I might not need to divert my attention further.
O_o
Because this is Angel Hernandez, his call is not going to be accepted as legitimate.
He has no frickin idea what he's doing.
How do you score that on your scorecard?
TV guys answered my question, 2 unassisted
Wow, Angel Hernandez involved in a smart umpire call.
Duffy with the clever out.
crafty veteran move.
Gotta love this game. Always something different.
Yup, never seen that before
If they aren't going to throw strikes, I guess this is what they're left with.
Yep
Now would be a good time for the Ryan Pressly I remember all to well to make an appearance.
I forgot. He turned into Dennis Eckersley when he donned the Astros uniform.
Apparently, they all do.
Well, time to pack this one in, I think. Just a little too long.
Oh, come on.
This is getting intolerable
For dumb.
Well that was... Something.
Error by reason of temporary insanity.
Maybe don't bean your catcher with the 1.400+ OPS in the face.
They scored that a passed ball?!
Gladden: "I'm not putting that in my book."
LOLANGELHERNANDEZ
He's been something else. I'm mad for both teams about it.
Haha, Springer definitely called out on ball 4.
It was a good couple of inches lower than ball 3. He's just guessing.
Criminy.
Yar
Remember the halcyon days when the Twins were leading 3-0?
This has not been Duffey's finest moment.
This game has taken on a real Hunter S. Thompson quality.
References to two HSTs in one day. Nice work.
Our cat uses the toilet. As a drinking fountain.
handbasket -----> hell
I hate self-inflicted losses.
aren't all losses self-inflicted? or are you a commie?
Some losses are ump inflicted
