Minor Details: Games of July 11

Big days for Zander Weil and Ronald Torreyes lead the Red Wings to a split.  A ninth-inning comeback carries the GCL Twins.

ROCHESTER 13, LEHIGH VALLEY 5 IN ROCHESTER (GAME 1)

The Red Wings scored five in the first and led 9-1 after three.  Zander Weil was 4-for-4 with two home runs (his fourteenth and fifteenth), two doubles, three runs, and seven RBIs.  Ronald Torreyes was 3-for-4 with two home runs (his sixth and seventh), three runs, and four RBIs.  Wilin Rosario was 3-for-4 with three runs and is batting .300.  Jaylin Davis was 2-for-4 and is batting .341.

LEHIGH VALLEY 5, ROCHESTER 4 IN ROCHESTER (GAME 2)

The Red Wings came back from a 5-0 deficit but did not get a hit after the fourth inning.  Ronald Torreyes was 2-for-2 with a home run (his eighth) and two runs.  Drew Maggi was 2-for-4.  Jimmy Kerrigan was 1-for-2 with a two-run homer, his second.  Ryan Eades pitched a perfect inning and struck out one.  Jake Reed struck out four in two perfect innings.  Ian Krol pitched a scoreless inning, giving up two hits and striking out one.  The Red Wings are 44-46, in third place, eight games back.

MONTGOMERY 9, PENSACOLA 2 IN PENSACOLA

The Biscuits scored four in the ninth to put the game out of reach.  Travis Blankenhorn was 2-for-4 with a double.  The Blue Wahoos are 10-11, in third place, one game back.

Rained out.

GREAT LAKES 3, CEDAR RAPIDS 1 IN CEDAR RAPIDS

The Loons scored two in the seventh to take the lead.  Gabe Snyder was 2-for-3 with a walk.  Trevor Casanova was 1-for-3 with a home run, his third.  Luis Rijo pitched 6.2 innings, giving up two runs on seven hits and two walks and striking out six.  His ERA is 2.37.  The Kernels are 12-8, tied for third, two games back.

BURLINGTON 5, ELIZABETHTON 0 IN ELIZABETHTON

The Royals scored two in the first and three in the fifth.  Ben Gross struck out six in four innings, giving up two runs (one earned) on five hits and no walks.  His ERA is 2.70.  Steven Cruz struck out six in three shutout innings, giving up a walk.  The E-Twins are 12-10, in second place, 1.5 games back.

GCL TWINS 3, GCL ORIOLES 2 AT TWINS

Trailing 2-0, the Twins scored three in the bottom of the ninth.  Three singles loaded the bases, then came a walk, a wild pitch, and a sacrifice fly.  Wander Valdez was 2-for-2 and is batting .345.  Parker Phillips was 2-for-4.  Niklas Rimmel struck out five in five innings, giving up two runs (one earned) on six hits and no walks.  His ERA is 2.45.  Miguel Rodriguez struck out seven in three shutout innings, giving up a hit and a walk.  His ERA is 2.25.  Evan Gillespie pitched a scoreless inning, giving up one hit and striking out one.  His ERA is zero.  The GCL Twins are 6-8, tied for fourth, 4.5 games back.
